Volumetric ray tracing

Proceedings of the 1994 symposium on Volume visualization - VVS '94, 1994
This paper presents an eficient ray tracing method for scenes containing volumetric as well as geometric data. A global illumination equation is developed for this method, which is able to capture in a single image both realistic eaects and practical volume rendering.

Multiprocessor Ray Tracing

Computer Graphics Forum, 1986
AbstractA multiprocessor algorithm for ray tracing is described. The performance of the algorithm is analysed for a cubic and square array of processors with only local communication between near neighbours. Theoretical expressions for the speedup of the system as a function of the number of processors are derived.

Ray tracings of the in between

ACM SIGGRAPH 2006 Sketches on - SIGGRAPH '06, 2006
When brought into the anaglyphic format, the images leap out of the two-dimensional plane. Without the three-dimensional glasses, the images are a complex jumble of red and cyan lines on an abstracted surface. With the three-dimensional glasses, the scenes spring into an enveloping experience of vibratory depth.

Parameterized Ray-tracing

ACM SIGGRAPH Computer Graphics, 1989
The construction and refinement of a computer graphics scene is unacceptably slow when using ray tracing. We introduce a new technique to speed up the generation of successive ray traced images when the geometry of the scene remains constant and only the light source intensities and the surface properties need to be adjusted.

Iterative Ray-tracing

Proceedings of the Physical Society. Section B, 1952
An iterative ray-tracing method described by T Smith is shown to give a divergent sequence of approximations in certain cases; when it converges it has only first order convergence according to Hartree's classification of iterative processes An iterative method which always gives second order convergence is described and the significance of the ...

Developments in Ray-Tracing

1991
After a brief recall of the basic principles of ray-tracing, the traditional and distributed approaches will be presented with the related illumination models. This will include an introduction to relevant topics such as photometry and optics, Monte-Carlo integration, stochastic sampling and a discussion on implementation issues.

Efficiency issues for ray tracing

ACM SIGGRAPH 2005 Courses on - SIGGRAPH '05, 1998
Ray casting is the bottleneck of many rendering algorithms. Although much work has been done on making ray casting more efficient, most published work is high level. This paper discusses efficiency at a slightly lower level, presenting optimizations for bounding volume hierarchies that many people use but are rarely described in the literature.

Ray failures in finite ray tracing

Applied Optics, 1985

Ray tracing of dynamic scenes

2014
