Monte Carlo Simulation Of Thermal Fluctuations Below The Onset Of Rayleigh-Benard Convection
The density fluctuations below the onset of convection in the Rayleigh-Benard problem are studied with the direct simulation Monte Carlo method. The particle simulation results clearly show the connection between the static correlation functions of ...

Surface deflection in Rayleigh-Benard convection
The problem of the deformation of a free upper surface in a convective layer subjected to an adverse temperature gradient is analyzed. An analytical expression for the amplitude of the surface deflection in terms of the fluid layer parameters has been obtained when buoyancy force is the responsible mechanism for instability (thick layers).

Study of heat and mass transport in Couple-Stress liquid under G-jitter effect
In the present paper, we deal with the effect of G-jitter (time periodic gravity modulation) on the stability of double diffusive convection in couple stress liquid by method of non-linear analysis. The infinitesimal disturbances are expanded in terms of

Sparse nonlinear models of chaotic electroconvection
Convection is a fundamental fluid transport phenomenon, where the large-scale motion of a fluid is driven, for example, by a thermal gradient or an electric potential. Modelling convection has given rise to the development of chaos theory and the reduced-

Energy Spectra in Rayleigh-Benard Convection
We present a numerical study of the energy spectra and fluxes in the inertial range of turbulent Rayleigh-Benard convection for a wide range of Prandtl number. We consider both free-slip and no-slip conditions for our simulation. Our results support the Kolmogorov-Obukhov (KO) scaling for velocity field for zero-Prandtl number and low-Prandtl number (P

Progressive emergence of canopy gravity waves during the afternoon–evening transition
Large‐eddy simulations are used to investigate the afternoon‐to‐evening transition of turbulence over a forest canopy and its coupling with atmospheric boundary‐layer dynamics. As surface cooling strengthens stability and weakens near‐canopy winds, canopy turbulence transitions progressively to internal gravity waves that dominate the evening flow ...

Analysis of Turbulent Free Convection in a Rectangular Rayleigh-Benard Cell [PDF]
The present study compares results of direct numerical simulations of thermal convection within a rectangular geometry with Rayleigh-Benard convection in thin fluid layers and cylindrical geometries.

A Model Intercomparison Study of Mixed‐Phase Clouds in a Laboratory Chamber
Abstract Supercooled liquid water often persists in mixed‐phase clouds for hours to days, even though a simple, well‐mixed Wegener‐Bergeron‐Findeisen model predicts rapid depletion of liquid water in the presence of ice. The persistence is well documented, but the relative importance of the maintaining mechanisms remains uncertain.
