Natural convection driven by the non-horizontal isothermal contours in an aqueous sessile droplet
Natural convection dominates heat and mass transfer in microscale droplet evaporation. Classical Rayleigh–Bénard theory states that convection occurs only above a critical Rayleigh number, yet persistent convection exists in evaporating sessile droplets ...

Topographically Controlled Marangoni-Rayleigh-Bénard Convection in Liquid Metals
Convection induced in a layer of liquid with a top free surface by a distribution of heating elements at the bottom can be seen as a variant of standard Marangoni–Rayleigh–Bénard Convection where in place of a flat boundary at constant temperature ...

On the Cell Broadening of Mesoscale Cellular Convection in a Well‐Mixed Boundary Layer
Abstract Understanding what controls the horizontal scale of mesoscale cellular convection is central to explaining cloud self‐organization and its radiative impacts. Using a hierarchy of large‐eddy simulations, we investigate cell broadening in a well‐mixed boundary layer by isolating the roles of radiation, cloud microphysics, and water vapor.

Instability of Two-Layer Rayleigh-Benard Convection with Interfacial Thermocapillary Effect
The linear instability analysis of the Rayleigh-Allarangoni-Benard convection in a two-layer system of silicon oil 10cS and fluorinert FC70 liquids are performed in a larger range of two-layer depth ratios H, from 0.2 to 5.0 for different total depth H ...

ABSTRACT The thermal performance of two triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) thermal Energy Storage modules, Diamond and Primitive, was investigated using computational fluid dynamics. The melting and solidification behaviors, as well as the charging and discharging characteristics, of the TPMS Energy Storage units were studied for various flow rates.

Localized Convection in Sputnik Planitia, Pluto
Abstract The cellular plains on Sputnik Planitia (SP) are thought to originate from convection in the nitrogen ice layer that fills the basin. Whereas the cells toward the center of SP's cellular plains are wider and interconnected—features explained by vigorous convection—the cells near the margins are smaller and less contiguous, with some appearing ...

Morphological Regimes of Rotating Moist Convection
Moist convection is a physical process in planetary atmospheres where the latent heat released by condensation acts as a buoyancy source that can enhance or even trigger an overturning convective instability.
