RAYLEIGH-RITZ ANALYSIS OF SANDWICH BEAMS

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2001
Abstract The paper discusses the possibility of predicting the dynamic behaviour, in terms of modal frequencies and loss factors, of sandwich beams with a constrained viscoelastic layer configuration. The problem is approached by the Rayleigh–Ritz method so that virtually any boundary condition can be dealt with by applying a single procedure. Simple

Improvement of Rayleigh–Ritz Eigenfunctions

SIAM Review, 1972
A common method of obtaining approximate eigenfunctions of a linear boundary value problem, $H\psi = E\psi $ and homogeneous linear boundary conditions, is the Rayleigh–Ritz method. We consider here the case where $\psi $ is expanded as $\psi = \sum _1^N {c_n w_n } $ and the $w_n $ are solutions of a “standard” problem, with the same boundary ...

Exploring the Rayleigh-Ritz Variational Principle

Journal of Chemical Education, 1998
The particle-in-a-box (PIB) system is used as a simple example in order to illustrate the basis of the quantum variational principle. After the general exposition of the variational principle demonstration, a quadratic polynomial trial function is applied to the PIB hamiltonian and the different steps of the demonstration are followed and reproduced ...

Rayleigh-Ritz Method

2013
This is the first of two chapters devoted to the approximate analysis of continuous systems. In this chapter, a global method of approximation is considered: the Rayleigh-Ritz method. It is based on the definition of a set of global assumed modes defined on the entire domain and satisfying the kinematic boundary conditions.

Dynamic Condition Estimation and Rayleigh–Ritz Approximation

SIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications, 1994
The Rayleigh-Ritz approximation method is applied to dynamic condition estimation. It is used as a common framework from which many condition estimators can be viewed. This framework leads to natural generalizations of existing dynamic condition estimators as well as more convenient alternatives. Some numerical examples are provided.

Some multipoint extensions of the Rayleigh–Ritz inequality

Proceedings of the Royal Society of Edinburgh: Section A Mathematics, 1985
SynopsisWe obtain the best constants for multipoint extensions of the Rayleigh–Ritz inequality, and use our results to find good upper bounds for the constants involved in the standard spline approximation and interpolation error bound theory.

Response using the Rayleigh‐Ritz method

Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics, 1979
AbstractAs an example of the extension of the Rayleigh‐Ritz method to response calculations, analysis is outlined for a damped rectangular plate. For harmonic excitation amplitudes of displacement and bending moment are compared with values from a modal solution from the plate equation.
