Precoder-Aided Iterative Detection Assisted Multilevel Coding and Three-Dimensional EXIT-Chart Analysis [PDF]
A novel three-dimensional (3D) EXIT chart is developed for investigating the iterative behaviour of Multilevel Coding (MLC) invoking Multistage Decoding (MSD). The extrinsic information transfer characteristics of both the symbol-to-bit demapper used and

Frequency estimation in multipath rayleigh-sparse-fading channels [PDF]
Maximum-likelihood (ML) data-aided frequency estimation in multipath Rayleigh-fading channels with sparse impulse responses is investigated. We solve this problem under the assumption that the autocorrelation matrix of the pilot signal can be ...

The Slashed‐Rayleigh Fading Channel Distribution
We propose an alternative distribution for modelling fading‐shadowing wireless channels. This distribution presents certain advantages over the Rayleigh‐lognormal distribution and the K distribution and has proved useful in the setting described. We obtain closed‐form expressions for the average channel capacity and for the average bit error rate of ...

MLSE receiver for the dispersive Rayleigh fading channel [PDF]
A maximum likelihood sequence estimator for the dispersive Rayleigh fading channel is developed. Following [1, 2], the MLSE uses a Kalman based channel estimator to acquire the channel parameters necessary to formulate the maximum likelihood metric. However, unlike the MLSE receiver presented in [1, 2], the proposed receiver uses the f-power series ...

Three-channel single-wavelength lidar depolarization calibration [PDF]
Linear depolarization measurement capabilities were added to the CANDAC Rayleigh–Mie–Raman lidar (CRL) at Eureka, Nunavut, in the Canadian High Arctic in 2010. This upgrade enables measurements of the phases (liquid versus ice) of cold and mixed-phase

On the Second-Order Statistics of Correlated Cascaded Rayleigh Fading Channels
The second-order statistics of two correlated cascaded (double) Rayleigh fading channels are analyzed, where different relevant second-order cross-correlation functions of in-phase and quadrature components of the cascaded Rayleigh channels are derived ...

Capacity Performance of Adaptive Receive Antenna Subarray Formation for MIMO Systems
Antenna subarray formation is a novel RF preprocessing technique that reduces the hardware complexity of MIMO systems while alleviating the performance degradations of conventional antenna selection schemes.

Adaptive modulation in a slow Rayleigh fading channel [PDF]
A novel, uneven protection phase shift keying technique is proposed for the encoding of the required modulation scheme in an adaptive modem arrangement, which exhibits an improved performance in comparison to previously proposed schemes. The performance is derived numerically and a system dependent optimisation is presented.

Estimation of aircraft distances using transponder signal strength information
The Federal Aviation Administration has recently mandated the installation of transponders that provide position reporting (Extended Mode S) in aircraft operating in most types of domestic controlled airspace by January 1, 2020.

Quantum channels in nonlinear optical processes [PDF]
Quantum electrodynamics furnishes a new type of representation for the characterisation of nonlinear optical processes. The treatment elicits the detailed role and interplay of specific quantum channels, information that is not afforded by other methods.
