The shear behavior of CFRP Strengthened RC beams

open access: yesMagazine of Civil Engineering, 2020
The primary objective of this paper is to study the effectiveness of using externally applied CFRP composites as a method of shear strengthening. The parameters investigated in this study included CFRP amount and distribution (i.e., sheet versus strips), bonded surface (i.e., web sheet versus U-wrap), and fiber orientation (i.e., 90° fiber direction ...

Electroluminescence and Franz–Keldysh Modulation Observed in Sn/Ge Multi‐Quantum Wells

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
We investigate the optoelectronic properties of PIN diodes based on ultrathin α‐Sn/Ge multiple quantum film structures, fabricated by molecular beam epitaxy, both experimentally and theoretically. The samples exhibit a light emission spectrum in the short‐wavelength infrared range with two transitions. Furthermore, when operating as a photodetector, we

Evaluation of loading capacity of corroded reinforced concrete beams using experiment and finite element method

open access: yesJournal of Materials and Engineering Structures, 2020
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the performance of corroded reinforced concrete (RC) beams using experiments and a proposed finite element (FE) model, which is able to consider the reduction of the reinforcement diameter and adhesion force.

Experimental study of flexural behaviour of layered steel fibre reinforced concrete beams

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering and Management, 2017
The building of structures from steel fibre reinforced concrete (SFRC) in the external and conventional reinforced concrete (RC) in the internal layer represents an economical alternative of structures effectively using SFRC.

Assessment of the effectiveness of the NSM shear strengthening technique for deep T cross section RC beams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The effectiveness of the near surface mounted (NSM) technique with carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminates for the shear strengthening of reinforced concrete (RC) beams has been demonstrated during the last decade.

Terahertz Waveform‐Selective Antenna Using a Patch Structure Loaded with Nonlinear Circuits

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
A waveform‐selective antenna that integrates the functions of waveform selectivity, electromagnetic shielding, and EM wave radiation has been proposed. By integrating different nonlinear circuits and selecting appropriate component values, the antenna can achieve high reflection of either a pulse wave or a continuous wave, while allowing the other ...

Composite using ECC-steel wire to strengthen RC beams: Flexural performance and FEM analysis

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials
Strengthening reinforced concrete (RC) beams often face challenges, such as the brittleness of adopted materials and adhesive degradation over time. This study investigates a new strengthening method using engineered cementitious composite (ECC) and ...

Computational study of shear strengthened of RC continuous beam using CFRP sheet with different wrapping scheme [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Nowadays the using of carbon fiber reinforced polymer CFRP composites as an externally bonded reinforcement has become one of the alternatives solutions to repair shear defect on reinforced concrete structure.

Theoretical assessment of progressive collapse capacity of reinforced concrete structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The progressive collapse behaviour of reinforced concrete (RC) structures requires consideration of material and geometric non-linearity, concrete crushing and rebar fracture.

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.
