Torsion RC structures of asymmetric multistory buildings
In multi-storey buildings that are asymmetrical in plan, an eccentricity occurs between the center of mass and the center of stiffness. Under the action of wind and seismic horizontal loads, torsion appears in the bearing system of the building. Torsion can also occur in nominally symmetrical buildings caused by uneven deformations of structural ...

Detailed Thermodynamic Modeling of Multi-Zone Buildings with Resistive-Capacitive Method
Increased use of energy in buildings and HVAC systems requires advanced control schemes like model-based control to improve energy efficiency, which in turn requires accurate thermodynamic models of buildings.

Inelastic seismic response of RC building with control system. [PDF]
Conventional buildings are mainly designed based on elastic analysis of structures subjected to moderate earthquakes. In this case, the seismic forces are much smaller than the forces introduced by strong ground motions with the considered structural ...

Would RC wide-beam buildings in Spain have survived Lorca earthquake (11-05-2011)? [PDF]
Lorca earthquake (11-05-2011) is most destructive event recorded in Spain, causing nine fatalities and other severe consequences. Its important intensity was rather unexpected, and serious concern arose regarding risk of building stock in Spain.

Collapse simulation of a typical super-tall RC frame-core tube building exposed to extreme fire [PDF]
The previous fire accidents proofed that reinforced concrete (RC) structures may experience progressive collapse subjected to extreme fires. In consequence, the study on the extreme fire-induced progressive collapse of RC structures is important for the ...

Seismic response evaluation of RC tower connected to short rigid buildings. [PDF]
In urban construction with the presence of tall buildings adjacent to short buildings, civil engineers have tried to connect low-rise rigid buildings to tall buildings in order to enhance the rigidity of the towers and decrease seismic response induced ...

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
