Impact of Urbanization and Climate Change on Urban Flooding: A case of the Kathmandu Valley

open access: yesJournal of Natural Resources and Development, 2017
Climate change and urbanization are two phenomena that are now playing an important role in the development of infrastructure. Urban drainage systems are increasingly overburdened during extreme precipitation events, and are stretched to their limits by ...

Population Exposure Changes to Mean and Extreme Climate Events Over Pakistan and Associated Mechanisms. [PDF]

open access: yesGeohealth, 2023
Abstract The increasing prevalence of warmer trends and climate extremes exacerbate the population's exposure to urban settlements. This work investigated population exposure changes to mean and extreme climate events in different Agro‐Ecological Zones (AEZs) of Pakistan and associated mechanisms (1979−2020).

Spatiotemporal Trends of Extreme Temperature Events Along the Qinghai‐Tibet Plateau Transportation Corridor From 1981 to 2019 Based on Estimated Near‐Surface Air Temperature

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 128, Issue 22, 27 November 2023., 2023
Abstract The intensification of global warming leads to the increased frequency of extreme temperature events. Many studies have reported on numerous regions facing extreme hot and cold temperatures to some degree. In this study, the daily maximum, minimum and mean near‐surface air temperatures were estimated to explore the detailed spatial trends of ...

CADTEP: A new daily quality‐controlled and homogenized climate database for Catalonia (1950–2021)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 43, Issue 11, Page 4771-4789, September 2023., 2023
A new daily temperature and precipitation database (CADTEP) has been developed for Catalonia. By selecting long series of climate records or merging the shorter ones of nearby stations, a spatially dense network of time series covering the period 1950–2021 was built.

Use of Indices on Daily Timescales to Study Changes in Extreme Precipitation Across Nepal Over 40 Years (1976–2015)

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 10, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Abstract This paper presents a comprehensive picture of extreme precipitation across Nepal from 1976 to 2015 based on high‐quality daily precipitation observations from 28 precipitation stations spatially distributed across the country. We computed 11 extreme precipitation indices.

Mejora de los datos satelitales de precipitación y temperatura en áreas con baja disponibilidad de estaciones meteorológicas: caso de estudio en Ancash, Perú [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
[EN] Rainfall and temperature variables play an important role in understanding meteorology at global and regional scales. However, the availability of meteorological information in areas of complex topography is difficult, as the density of weather ...

Climate Change Impact on the Trigger of Natural Disasters over South‐Eastern Himalayas Foothill Region of Myanmar: Extreme Rainfall Analysis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Geophysics, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
The study examines the characteristics and variability of monsoon rainfall in Myanmar, focusing on the relationship between heavy rainfall, floods, and earthquakes, which impact agriculture, hydrology, and the environment. Generally, heavy rainfall can cause flooding, economic losses, and water table changes. Northern Myanmar floods occur mainly during

Data rescue in selected countries in connection with the EUMETNET DARE activity

open access: yesGeoscience Data Journal, Volume 9, Issue 1, Page 187-200, June 2022., 2022
Abstract In situ data are an essential need in the analyses of past and current climate change. All over the world, different data rescue activities try to extend existing time series and to retrieve data in spatial and temporal data sparse regions. Also in Europe, part of the historic data is still only available in paper archives, without any digital

Anthropogenic influence on extreme temperatures in China based on CMIP6 models

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 42, Issue 5, Page 2981-2995, April 2022., 2022
During 1951–2018, most of the observed warming in the intensity and frequency indices over China, western and eastern China are attributed to the combined effect of anthropogenic forcing. GHG forcing plays a dominant role, accounting for about 1.6 (1.1–2) times of observed warming in changes of most indices, while the AA offset about 35% (10–60%) of ...
