An institutional perspective on managing migrant workers in the North of England [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Despite advances made in our understanding of migrant worker issues, analysis of the literature reveals disconnections between the policy and practice of 'managed migration' across three fundamental levels of the state (e.g. public institutions at the EU,

Coil Combination Using OpTIMUS Results in Improved Signal‐to‐Noise Ratios of In Vivo MR Spectra Acquired at 7 T

open access: yesNMR in Biomedicine, Volume 38, Issue 6, June 2025.
Coil combination with OpTIMUS increases SNR of MR spectra at 7 T compared to well‐established coil combination algorithms without compromising spectral quantification. By reducing spectral noise and incorporating the metabolic signal from higher order singular vectors, OpTIMUS has the potential to enable shorter acquisition times compared to the ...

Macroeconomic Drivers of Sustainable Tourism Development in Bangladesh: An ARDL Bounds Testing Approach

open access: yesSustainable Development, Volume 33, Issue 3, Page 3918-3940, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Tourism serves as a critical driver of economic development, yet its relationship with macroeconomic and socio‐political factors remains underexplored in emerging economies like Bangladesh. This study examines the long‐run and short‐run impacts of macroeconomic drivers, including CO₂ emissions, GDP growth, inflation, population growth, road ...

Assessing Winter Phytoplankton Community Composition Dynamics and Their Response to Environmental Drivers in the Subarctic Northeast Pacific

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 130, Issue 6, June 2025.
Abstract The subarctic northeast Pacific (SNEP) is a high‐nutrient, low‐chlorophyll region where primary productivity is limited by bioavailable iron during the spring through autumn, and by light limitation during winter. Here, we investigate the spatio‐temporal distribution and drivers of SNEP surface phytoplankton biomass and community composition ...

A preliminary study of factors associated with accommodation of obsessive‐compulsive symptoms by romantic partners

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Psychology, Volume 64, Issue 2, Page 218-232, June 2025.
Abstract Objectives The accommodation of symptoms of obsessive‐compulsive disorder (OCD) by loved ones is highly prevalent and impactful on treatment outcomes; however, little is known about factors that influence accommodation by romantic partners of OCD sufferers. The aim of this preliminary investigation was to explore such correlates.

Using Host‐Guest Chemistry to Examine the Effects of Porosity and Catalyst‐Support Interactions on CO2 Reduction

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 137, Issue 21, May 19, 2025.
Porous framework materials and carbon nanotubes are often used to immobilize molecular electrocatalysts. Herein, we employ metalloporphyrin nanocages (M = Fe, Co) and their host‐guest complexes with C60/C70 as discrete counterparts to these hybrid catalytic materials. The cages achieve high current densities for reducing CO2 to CO at low overpotentials,

Metabarcoding Unveils the Diversity and Dynamics of In Situ Diet and Symbionts Associated With Copepods in Chinese Coastal Waters

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 31, Issue 6, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim Copepods are the key secondary producers in marine ecosystems, yet their in situ diet and symbionts remain underexplored due to technical challenges, limiting our understanding of their population dynamics and ecological functions. Using DNA metabarcoding, we jointly characterised the natural diet and symbionts of copepods across Chinese ...

Connectivity‐Driven Assembly of Trichoptera Metacommunities Across River Networks With Different Drying Patterns

open access: yesFreshwater Biology, Volume 70, Issue 6, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Spatial connectivity varies temporally due to fragmentation caused by drying and may potentially define the diversity and composition of communities. We studied spatiotemporal patterns in three drying river networks (DRNs) in Croatia, Czechia and Hungary, with varying drying patterns, focusing on the roles of local environmental variables and ...

The Biogeography of Soil Bacteria in Australia Exhibits Greater Resistance to Climate Change Than Fungi

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 31, Issue 6, June 2025.
This study examined the geographic patterns of soil bacteria and fungi across continental Australia using digital soil mapping methods and projected their potential changes by 2040. The results indicate that fungal distributions are likely to experience more substantial changes than bacterial patterns, highlighting the differential impacts of climate ...

Global identification of key genes for pollen germination in rice through high‐throughput screening and gene editing

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, Volume 67, Issue 6, Page 1665-1684, June 2025.
A systematic examination of 107 T‐DNA insertional lines targeting 105 genes preferentially expressed in late pollen development identified 42 lines exhibiting significant deviations from expected Mendelian segregation ratios, suggesting a potential involvement in pollen viability and germination.
