Inflammatory Markers Stratify Surgical Outcomes in Pediatric Airway Reconstruction

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, Volume 136, Issue 4, Page 1920-1927, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives Red blood cell distribution width (RDW) predicts surgical success in adult patients undergoing open airway reconstruction for laryngotracheal stenosis, but similar biomarkers in pediatrics remain unidentified. This study identifies predictors of outcomes in pediatric patients undergoing triple endoscopy or surgical airway ...

Increase in testis weight of hereditary dwarf rats (rdw/rdw) with advancing age.

open access: yesJikken dobutsu. Experimental animals, 1995
Testis weight and seminal vesicle weight (relative to total body weight) in rdw rats and N rats were compared with advancing age. The results obtained were as follows 1) The increase in testis weight became remarkable at 15-16 weeks of age. The weight remained constant up to 23-30 weeks of age and decreased thereafter with age.

Pituitary-Adrenal Functions in a Hereditary Hypothyroid (rdw) Rat

open access: yesExperimental Animals, 2010
The rdw rat is a hereditary hypothyroid strain isolated from Wistar-Imamichi rats. In the present study, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and corticosterone responses to restraint stress (120 min) were examined in rdw adult male rats. ACTH response to restraint stress was higher in rdw rats than in hetero control rats.

Exogenous Glutathione and Nitric Oxide Improve Waterlogging Stress Tolerance in Maize

open access: yesPlant-Environment Interactions, Volume 7, Issue 2, April 2026.
Exogenous glutathione (GSH) and nitric oxide (NO) enhance waterlogging tolerance in maize seedlings by reducing oxidative damage and improving growth. Combined GSH + NO treatment reduces H2O2 and malondialdehyde levels, enhances antioxidant defenses, protects photosynthetic pigments, and promotes biomass accumulation, thereby improving the ...

Assessing the integration of social marketing principles in ivory demand management interventions in China and Southeast Asia

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 2, April 2026.
Abstract Consumer demand for ivory perpetuates the unsustainable and illegal killing of African elephants and other wildlife species. Interventions that aim to change consumer behavior are increasingly recognized as a crucial element of demand management. However, poor design and implementation have limited their effectiveness.

Clinical Evaluation of a Novel Point‐of‐Care Hematology Analyzer for Complete Blood Count With Differential

open access: yesInternational Journal of Laboratory Hematology, Volume 48, Issue 2, Page 353-364, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Point‐of‐care testing (POCT) for hematology enables clinicians to access actionable results during patient visits, supporting timely decisions such as transfusions or chemotherapy adjustments. However, POCT analyzers must demonstrate clinical performance comparable to centralized laboratory systems. We conducted a proof‐of‐concept

Patra index and Mentzer index – A retrospective comparative study to differentiate Beta-Thalassemia Trait from iron deficiency anemia

open access: yesJournal of Family Medicine and Primary Care
Introduction: Beta-thalassemia trait (BTT) and iron deficiency anemia (IDA) are the two most common causes of microcytic hypochromic anemia. Differentiating these conditions is crucial, particularly in school-aged children, to reduce the societal burden ...

ACMG/AMP‐Based Variant Classification of a Novel HBA2 Variant (HBA2: C.297del, Hb Taiping) in Compound Heterozygosity With Hb Adana (HBA2:C.179G>A) Causing Non‐Deletional Hb H Disease

open access: yesInternational Journal of Laboratory Hematology, Volume 48, Issue 2, Page 458-465, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Accurate classification of novel globin gene variants is critical for the diagnosis and management of thalassaemia. The adaptation of ACMG/AMP guidelines for globin genes represents an important step toward standardising variant interpretation and enhancing clinical utility in the field.
