Negative thermal expansion (NTE) materials and structures exhibit the anomalous property of shrinking rather than expanding when heated. This work examines the potential of multi-material planar re-entrant and non-re-entrant honeycombs to exhibit ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Re-entrant Isotropic Phase between Lamellar and Columnar Mesophases
Tetradental cis-enaminoketone Ni (II) complexes with different molecular shape have been synthesized. Intramolecular hydrogen bonds, which stiffen the mesogenic core and restrict rotation of some molecular parts, have been introduced in these compounds ...

One waveguide network is a 5-port turnstile junction consisting of three H-plane waveguides with a circular quarter wave long resonator on its axis, open circuited at one end and short circuited at the other. It is readily converted to a turnstile 3-port circulator by replacing the dielectric resonator by a gyromagnetic one and closing 2 of the 5 ports.

Re-Entrant Spin Susceptibility of a Superconducting Grain [PDF]
We study the spin susceptibility chi of a small, isolated superconducting grain. Due to the interplay between parity effects and pairing correlations, the dependence of chi on temperature T is qualitatively different from the standard BCS result valid in the bulk limit.

Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

The mechanical response of steel auxetic structures manufactured using laser-powder bed fusion was explored. The level of control exerted by the key design parameters of vertical strut length (H), re-entrant strut length (L), strut thickness (t) and re ...

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.
