Reaching out [PDF]

open access: yesNature Reviews Physics, 2020
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, science is crucial to inform public policy. At the same time, mistrust of scientists and misinformation about scientific facts are rampant. Six scientists, actively involved in outreach, reflect on how to build a better understanding and trust of science.

Detection of Far-Infrared Water Vapor, Hydroxyl, and Carbon Monoxide Emissions from the Supernova Remnant 3C 391 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We report the detection of shock-excited far-infrared emission of H2O, OH, and CO from the supernova remnant 3C 391, using the ISO Long-Wavelength Spectrometer. This is the first detection of thermal H2O and OH emission from a supernova remnant.

Independent development of the Reach and the Grasp in spontaneous self-touching by human infants in the first six months

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2015
The Dual Visuomotor Channel Theory proposes that visually guided reaching is a composite of two movements, a Reach that advances the hand to contact the target and a Grasp that shapes the digits for target purchase.

The Mid-Infrared Spectrum of the Zodiacal and Exozodiacal Light [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The zodiacal light is the dominant source of the mid-infrared sky brightness seen from Earth, and exozodiacal light is the dominant emission from planetary and debris systems around other stars.

Long-Wavelength Excesses in Two Highly Obscured High-Mass X-Ray Binaries: IGR J16318–4848 and GX 301–2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We present evidence for excess long-wavelength emission from two high-mass X-ray binaries, IGR J16318-4848 and GX 301-2, that show enormous obscuration (N_H ≃ 10^(23)-10^(24) cm^(-2)) in their X-ray spectra. Using archival near- and mid-infrared data, we

Gamma-ray Emission from Crushed Clouds in Supernova Remnants

open access: yes, 2010
It is shown that the radio and gamma-ray emission observed from newly-found "GeV-bright" supernova remnants (SNRs) can be explained by a model, in which a shocked cloud and shock-accelerated cosmic rays (CRs) frozen in it are simultaneously compressed by

Palm-based Oleochemicals in Non-Food Applications: Meeting the Environmental Regulatory Challenges

open access: yesASM Science Journal, 2021
The oleochemical manufacturing is one of the industrial sectors that contributed significantly to the economic growth of the country. Palm oil (PO) and palm kernel oil (PKO) have been utilised as feedstocks for production of the five basic oleochemicals,

G-Fusion: LiDAR and Camera Feature Fusion on the Ground Voxel Space

open access: yesIEEE Access
Detection based on LiDAR and camera fusion is increasingly popular for researchers in the autonomous driving domain. Compared to the camera-only and LiDAR-only methods, the fusion-based methods indeed improve the detection accuracy on public-available ...
