Effects of reactive functional groups in the compatibilizer on mechanical properties of compatibilized blends

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1994
AbstractThe compatibility of blends of polyamide‐6/[styrene‐(ethylene‐butylene)‐styrene] triblock copolymer (SEBS) was enhanced with a compatibilizer, maleated SEBS, whose compositions were varied from 0 to 4 wt % of the blends. The maleated SEBS (MA‐g‐SEBS) was synthesized by reacting (grafting) maleic anhydride (MA) with SEBS in the laboratory at ...

Interfacial activity of reactive compatibilizers in polymer blends

Rheologica Acta, 2017
The influence of a reactive block copolymer compatibilizer on the breakup of polymer fibers in the quiescent conditions is investigated using the breaking thread method (BTM). The compatibilizer is either localized at the interface of two polymers or incorporated in the bulk of thread phase.

Reactive compatibilization of blends containing liquid crystalline polymers

Polymer, 2000
Abstract This paper describes the reactive compatibilization of blends of a wholly aromatic thermotropic copolyester liquid crystalline polymer (TLCP) with random copolymers of ethylene and acrylic acid (EAA) and their salts. Two different TLCPs were used: one was a copolymer of hydroxybenzoic acid and hydroxynaphthanoic acid and the other also ...

Reactive compatibilization in phase separated interpenetrating polymer networks

Macromolecular Symposia, 2004
AbstractThe effects of compatibilizing additives (monomethacrylic ester of ethylene glycol (MEG) and oligo‐urethane‐dimethacrylate (OUDM)) on the kinetics of interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) formation based on cross‐linked polyurethane and linear polystyrene and its influence on the microphase separation, viscoelastic and thermophysical ...

Interfacial Elasticity of Reactively Compatibilized PP∕PA6 Blends

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2008
The aim of the present work was to evaluate the interfacial properties of compatibilized PP/PA6 blend by means of measuring the melt elasticity of the samples in conjunction with the Palierne model. The PP/PA blend samples varying in blend ratio and compatibilizer concentration were prepared in an internal mixer.

Reactive compatibilization of aliphatic polyamides with functionalized polyethylenes

Polymer, 1997
The grafting efficiency on different nylons (6, 11, 12, 6,10 and 6,12) of ethylene-glycidyl methacrylate copolymer (PE-g-GMA) and ethylene-ethyl acrylate copolymer at a composition of 85/15, when meltmixed under optimum conditions, was investigated. Two of these nylons, 6 and 11, were selected to be studied in the complete composition range.

Reactive Compatibilization: Formation of Double-Grafted Copolymers by In Situ Binary Grafting and Their Compatibilization Effect

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2017
Reactive compatibilizers are usually used to enhance the compatibility of immiscible polymer blends. However, reactive linear compatibilizers containing reactive groups on the main chains form graft copolymers during reactive blending, and such graft copolymers with an asymmetric molecular structure are often "pulled in" or "pulled out" under ...

Compatibilization of starch–polyester blends using reactive extrusion

Polymer Engineering & Science, 2006
AbstractMaleic anhydride (MA) and dicumyl peroxide (DCP) were used as crosslinking agent and initiator respectively for blending starch and a biodegradable synthetic aliphatic polyester using reactive extrusion. Blends were characterized using dynamic mechanical and thermal analysis (DMTA).

Reactive compatibilization in polymer alloys, recyclates and composites

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 1999
Abstract The efficiency of all composite materials depends on the fiber–matrix interface and its ability to transfer stress from the matrix to the fiber. Radiation treatment is a possible way to bind together the main components of the composite. In our earlier work we applied acrylic oligomer-treated fibers irradiated with low energy electron beam ...

Effect of reactive compatibilization on droplet coalescence in shear flow

Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics, 2007
Abstract The evolution of the morphology of blends of polyethylene and polyamide with a droplet–matrix morphology, generated by transient shear flows, has been determined using a method based on quenching following deformation of the samples kept between the parallel plates of a rheometer.
