Optimal reactive compensation in power systems
Computers & Electrical Engineering, 1982Abstract This article describes a method for planning the type, location and minimum amount of installed reactive capacity necessary for maintaining an acceptable voltage profile in a power system during credible contingencies. The problem is formulated as the minimisation of the cost function representing the total cost of the reactive compensation ...

Transmission system reactive power compensation
2002 IEEE Power Engineering Society Winter Meeting. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.02CH37309), 2003In the book Edited by T. J. E. Miller (Reactive Power Control in Electric Systems, John Wiley & Sons, 1982) the forward by Charles Concordia contains a perfect summary of why we must use reactive compensation: "...the transmission of active power requires a difference in angular phase between voltages at the sending and receiving points (which is ...

Reactive power compensation on distribution feeders
Proceedings The Twenty-Ninth Southeastern Symposium on System Theory, 2002The optimal sizing and placement of shunt capacitors on distribution feeders has received considerable attention from researchers for many years. This paper provides an analysis of several of the general solution methods found in such literature. The validity of certain simplifying assumptions are addressed and additional insights are provided.

Reactive power compensation of nonlinear load
13th International Conference on Development in Power System Protection 2016 (DPSP), 2016The paper concerns reactive power compensation of nonlinear load. At the beginning power definitions and problems related to calculation of reactive power are presented. Based on the definitions, simplified distortion factor is determined. Two possibilities of reactive power compensation are analyzed.

Reactive Power Compensation in AC Power Systems
2017This chapter introduces most widely used reactive power compensators considering the recent advances seen in industrial applications. In order to provide better and deeper knowledge for authors, the basic principles of reactive power compensation and symmetrical systems are presented primarily.

Automatic reactive compensation at 11 kV
APSCOM-97. International Conference on Advances in Power System Control, Operation and Management, 1997In order to fulfil reactive power requirements, capacitors need to be switched in during the load pickup period in the morning and switched out during the load dropping period in the evening. This creates a heavy workload on the control engineers, distracting their attention in monitoring the power system and delaying their responses to site operations.

MICROPROCESSOR-BASED REACTIVE POWER COMPENSATION DEVICE
Scientific research of the SCO countries: synergy and integrationA brief review of existing methods and devices of inductive reactive power compensation in 50 Hz AC networks, both on the high voltage side of 6.3/10 kV and on the low voltage side of 0.4 kV, is carried out. Cases of centralised, group and individual compensation are considered.
