Reactive Azeotropes in Kinetically Controlled Reactive Distillation

In this paper, a novel method for the determination of reactive azeotropes is presented that applies to chemical reactions that do not reach chemical equilibrium. The principles of the methodology are explained for ideal mixtures. For the MTBE- and TAME-synthesis the results obtained with this methodology are compared to the results from Thiel et al.

The general pattern of trajectories of equilibrium distillation with nonequilibrium reversible reaction in the liquid phase is discussed.
