Distillation column with reactive pump arounds: an alternative to reactive distillation
Chemical Engineering and Processing: Process Intensification, 2003Abstract The hardware design of reactive distillation (RD) columns pose severe challenges with respect to the choice and design of the hardware; the requirements of reaction (i.e. high liquid or catalyst holdup) is not in consonance with the requirement of separation (high interfacial area).

Semicontinuous reactive extraction and reactive distillation
Chemical Engineering Research and Design, 2009A novel semicontinuous process that alternates between reactive extraction and reactive distillation in a single packed column is introduced. It is illustrated for the recovery of dilute 1,3-propanediol from an aqueous fermentation broth. 1,3-Propanediol is recovered by reaction with isobutyraldehyde, forming 2-isopropyl-1,3-dioxane.

Research progress in reactive distillation
Advanced Separation Technology, 2023As a special distillation process, reactive distillation technology has been widely used in the petrochemical field due to its outstanding advantages such as high efficiency and energy saving. It has been paid more and more attention from researchers in the field of chemical process enhancement since the 1920s.

Reactive distillation for methyl acetate production
Computers & Chemical Engineering, 2003We describe a hierarchy of methods, models, and calculation techniques that support the design of reactive distillation columns. The models require increasingly sophisticated data needs as the hierarchy is implemented. The approach is illustrated for the production of methyl acetate because of its commercial importance, and because of the availability ...

Reactive Distillation Processes
Chemical Engineering & Technology, 1999Reactive distillation, i.e. the simultaneous implementation of reaction and distillation in a counter currently operated column, ia a promising alternative to the common sequential processes. In a preceding paper the effective phase equilibrium of a reactive distillation has been studied with a special focus on the determination of so-called reactive ...

Reactive Azeotropes in Kinetically Controlled Reactive Distillation
Chemical Engineering Research and Design, 1999In this paper, a novel method for the determination of reactive azeotropes is presented that applies to chemical reactions that do not reach chemical equilibrium. The principles of the methodology are explained for ideal mixtures. For the MTBE- and TAME-synthesis the results obtained with this methodology are compared to the results from Thiel et al.

Modelling of reactive separation processes: reactive absorption and reactive distillation
Chemical Engineering and Processing: Process Intensification, 2003In the last years chemical process industries have shown permanently increasing interest in the development of reactive separation processes (RSP) combining reaction and separation mechanisms into a single, integrated unit. Such processes bring several important advantages among which are increase of reaction yield and selectivity, overcoming ...

AbstractThe reactive distillation equilibrium has been experimentally determined by chromatographic analysis of the vapor phase for various mixtures of two pyridines plus an organic acid in stoichiometric deficiency in an organic solvent. Protonation of pyridines by a weak acid seems to involve ion pair formation, while protonation by a strong acid ...

Reactive distillation with KATAPAK®
Catalysis Today, 2001Abstract KATAPAK-SP and -S are structured catalytic packings for reactive distillation or gas–liquid reactors available from laboratory to industrial scale. Applying the KATAPAK-SP concept, the ratio of catalyst volume fraction to separation efficiency can be varied over a wide range, therefore the design of a reactive distillation column can be ...
