Immobilized photosensitizers for antimicrobial applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Photodynamic antimicrobial chemotherapy (PACT) is a very promising alternative to conventional antibiotics for the efficient inactivation of pathogenic microorganisms; this is due to the fact that it is virtually impossible for resistant strains to ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Macropore–matrix mass transfer of reactive solutes quantified by fluorescence imaging

open access: yesVadose Zone Journal, 2020
Horizontal infiltration experiments with a fluorescent dye (e.g., Na‐fluorescein) potentially allow the quantification of the macropore–matrix mass transfer of reactive solutes through coated macropore surfaces.

Surface modification of polyester using chicken feather keratin hydrolysate to improve water absorbency and dye uptake [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
PET fiber has an intrinsic low hydrophilic character and an inactive surface which make it uncomfortable for wearing purpose. Moreover, it is difficult to colour polyester fabric other than disperse dyes.

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Effect of dye structure and redox mediators on anaerobic azo and anthraquinone dye reduction

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 2012
We investigated the biological decolourisation of dyes with different molecular structures. The kinetic constant values (k1) achieved with azo dye Reactive Red 120 were 7.6 and 10.1 times higher in the presence of RM (redox mediators) AQDS and riboflavin,

LINC01116, a hypoxia‐lncRNA marker of pathological lymphangiogenesis and poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...

Degradation of Dye C.I. Reactive Red 15 in Aqueous Solution by Kaolinite Supported Zero Valent Iron [PDF]

open access: yesNature Environment and Pollution Technology, 2019
Dyes are important source of water pollution and their degradation products may be carcinogens and toxic to mammals. For evaluation of oxidative degradation of dye wastewater, the kaolinite supported zero valent iron were synthesized.

Reduction of colour in treated wastewater from textile industry using sawdusts as bio-sorbents

open access: yesTropical Agricultural Research, 2015
Textile industries use dye such as Rhodamine B, Brilliant Red and Reactive Orange for the fabrics. Thus the colour of the effluent even after the normal treatment is not within the standard to discharge into the environment.

Freeform Fabrication of Biological Scaffolds by Projection Photopolymerization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This article presents a micro-manufacturing method for direct, projection printing of 3- dimensional (3D) scaffolds for applications in the field of tissue engineering by using a digital micro-mirror-array device (DMD) in a layer-by-layer process ...
