Active reactive-power controller

IEE Proceedings - Electric Power Applications, 1995
A novel technique for building reactive power compensators using the switched-capacitor technique is presented. Normally when switched-capacitor are used for reactive power compensation they are operated at the supply frequency; in the proposed technique the capacitors are switched at higher frequencies, typically 800 Hz.

Zone Reactive Power Controller

2018 IEEE 4th International Forum on Research and Technology for Society and Industry (RTSI), 2018
In this paper zone reactive power controller is presented. Power network is naturally divided into voltage areas which are semi-independent or, at least, have no significant impact on neighbouring areas. Natural voltage areas, zones, represent the impact range of control actions performed in a certain zone.

Reactive Power Control of Compound Reactive Power Compensation Device

2018 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA), 2018
A low-cost composite reactive power compensation model is proposed. The model consists of a Thyristor Switched Capacitor (TSC), a Thyristor Controlled Reactor (TCR) and a Static Var Generator (SVG). Firstly the paper completes the preliminary compensation by the large-capacity TSC+TCR module, and then the small-capacity SVG is responsible for ...

Fuzzy optimal reactive power control

Electric Power Systems Research, 1994
Abstract Optimal reactive power control has been an active research area during the last decade. Where precise data are available, a specific objective with clear-cut constraints was the primary requirement. The sensitivity of a feasible solution in the constraint domain has been reported many times.

Coordinated Reactive Power-Voltage Controller for Multimachine Power Plant

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2012
This paper presents a newly developed voltage and reactive power control device, the coordinated Q -V controller (CQVC), for a multimachine steam power plant (SPP). The requirements for the new controller are defined based on identified inadequacies of manual Q-V control.

Provision for reactive power market in the reactive power control groups

TENCON 2008 - 2008 IEEE Region 10 Conference, 2008
Implementation of electricity market is facing many challenges in developing countries like India. The market for real power is gaining more interest of investors while the market for reactive power has less incentive due to its technical limitation. But reactive power is of importance for system security and improving the line transmission capacity ...

Optimal Reactive Power Control in Hybrid Power Systems

Electric Power Components and Systems, 2012
Abstract Optimal reactive power flow accounts for the major reduction in active power loss as well as more stable system operation. This article presents a novel model for optimal reactive power flow in hybrid power systems. Hybrid systems consist of an AC-DC system and flexible AC transmission system devices.

Decentralized Reactive Power Control of Wind Power Plants

2012 IEEE International Energy Conference and Exhibition (ENERGYCON), 2012
Wind power is a rising renewable resource in the energy portfolio worldwide. A huge research effort has been applied for the efficiency of the wind turbines, i.e. for the real power injections maximization; on the other hand, reactive resources exploitation still need a deep investigation.

Reactive power control for real power-loss minimization

IEEE Computer Applications in Power, 1988
An accurate and fast technique for real-time control of system voltage and reactive power of large-scale power systems is presented. The one-bus-away method has been modified to obtain accurate results with moderate computer requirements for online application to large-scale power networks.
