Optimal Attack against Cyber-Physical Control Systems with Reactive Attack Mitigation

open access: yes, 2017
This paper studies the performance and resilience of a cyber-physical control system (CPCS) with attack detection and reactive attack mitigation. It addresses the problem of deriving an optimal sequence of false data injection attacks that maximizes the ...

Impedance-compensated grid synchronisation for extending the stability range of weak grids with voltage source converters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This paper demonstrates how the range of stable power transfer in weak grids with voltage source converters (VSCs) can be extended by modifying the grid synchronisation mechanism of a conventional synchronous reference frame phase locked loop (PLL).

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Analysing nonlinear oscillation and chaos using fundamental-wave balance principle

open access: yesTongxin xuebao, 2008
The fundamental-wave current Is1 can be found by the theory of fundamental harmonic balance. Its flow direc- tion represents profit and loss of active and reactive power in order to maintain self-oscillation, when the exciting source applied to the ...

A reactive voltage control strategy for distributed PV based on cluster segmentation

open access: yesZhejiang dianli
In response to the voltage over-limit in distributed photovoltaic (PV) distribution networks, a reactive voltage control strategy considering cluster segmentation of distributed PV is proposed.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Voltage Stability Limit of Electric Power System with Reactive Power Constraints on Generators

open access: yesIEEJ Transactions on Power and Energy, 2003
This paper investigates transfer limit surface as a key to voltage stability of electric power system. Transfer limit surface is defined in nodal loading parameter space as a set of critical points. It is concluded that transfer limit surface of general power system with inequality constraints is considered to be continuous, non-smooth, and convex ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
