Optimization of Reactive Power Expansion Planning
Electric Power Components and Systems, 2011Abstract This article presents a penalty successive linear programming approach for optimum investment of reactive power in networks. Unlike many successive linear programming algorithms, the proposed approach is based on a successive linear programming framework that admits a convergence proof for non-linearly constrained problems of general form. The

Optimal Reactive Power Planning Using Genetic Algorithm
2006 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man and Cybernetics, 2006This paper is proposed an optimal shunt capacitor planning of a transmission system using genetic algorithm. The genetic algorithm is used to find optimal shunt capacitor single unit capacity of various voltages rank and the install positions for peak power system and control the bus voltage to the reasonable range.

Reactive Power Planning for transmission loss minimization
2011 5th International Power Engineering and Optimization Conference, 2011Total system losses of the power system relate to the reactive power management in the network. This paper presents a method to minimize the system losses by utilizing Reactive Power Planning (RPP) approach. In this technique, the control variables of RPP were formulated as an optimization problem and Multiagent Immune Evolutionary Programming (MAIEP ...

Stochastic optimization for reactive power planning problems
2016 IEEE International Energy Conference (ENERGYCON), 2016In this paper, a stochastic optimal power flow is developed to solve the reactive power planning (RPP) problem while dealing with uncertainties such as intermittent power generation and loads. The RPP problem is formulated as a mixed integer non-linear problem (MINLP) which is a hard problem to solve.

Contingency-constrained reactive power planning and scheduling
1988., IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2003The authors describe a software package that has been created to solve the contingency-constrained reactive power flow problem. A methodology is presented which aims to provide an effective tool for the planning and scheduling of reactive power under a set of defined contingencies.

A new reactive power planning procedure for Iranian Power Grid
Electric Power Systems Research, 2004Abstract Reactive power planning has received considerably attention during the last few years. Allocation of reactive power resources of both static (ex. switchable capacitors and/or reactors) and dynamic (ex. static VAr compensators, or SVCs) types can have major impacts on voltage security (i.e.

Reactive power planning against power system steady state voltage instability
2008 40th North American Power Symposium, 2008This paper tests a long term VAR planning algorithm, developed earlier to counter steady state voltage instability issues under severe contingencies, on a portion of a large scale system model consisting of 16173 buses representing Eastern interconnection.

Reactive power planning for transmission grids with wind power penetration
IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies, 2012This paper proposes an application of Differential Evolution algorithm to power system reactive power planning with wind farms integration. The SVC device is used to minimize the real power losses and to improve the voltage profile during various operation scenarios disturbed by wind power variations.
