Reactive Power Planning

2011
Over the years, voltage performance of a power system has received attention from both analysis and improvement points of view. Although voltage magnitudes are, normally, of main concern, during the last, perhaps, two decades, voltage stability is also received attention in literature. In this section, we try to briefly, differentiate between these two

Reactive power planning using a new hybrid technique

Soft Computing, 2014
Voltage deviation and stability constrained VAr planning or reactive power planning (RPP) is an important challenging issue in power systems. This paper presents a new hybrid technique for modeling and solving RPP problem taking into account the static voltage stability constraint.

Optimal Reactive Power Planning Using Genetic Algorithm

2006 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man and Cybernetics, 2006
This paper is proposed an optimal shunt capacitor planning of a transmission system using genetic algorithm. The genetic algorithm is used to find optimal shunt capacitor single unit capacity of various voltages rank and the install positions for peak power system and control the bus voltage to the reasonable range.

Combination of AC Transmission Expansion Planning and Reactive Power Planning in the restructured power system

Energy Conversion and Management, 2012
Transmission Expansion Planning (TEP) is an important issue in power system studies. It involves decisions on location and number of new transmission lines. Before deregulation of the power system, the goal of TEP problem was investment cost minimization.

Reactive power planning for transmission grids with wind power penetration

IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies, 2012
This paper proposes an application of Differential Evolution algorithm to power system reactive power planning with wind farms integration. The SVC device is used to minimize the real power losses and to improve the voltage profile during various operation scenarios disturbed by wind power variations.

A new reactive power planning procedure for Iranian Power Grid

Electric Power Systems Research, 2004
Abstract Reactive power planning has received considerably attention during the last few years. Allocation of reactive power resources of both static (ex. switchable capacitors and/or reactors) and dynamic (ex. static VAr compensators, or SVCs) types can have major impacts on voltage security (i.e.

Evolutionary programming approach to reactive power planning

IEE Proceedings - Generation, Transmission and Distribution, 1996
The paper proposes an application of evolutionary programming (EP) to reactive power planning (RPP). RPP is a nonsmooth and nondifferentiable optimisation problem for a multiobjective function. Several techniques to make EP practicable have been developed. The proposed approach is demonstrated with the IEEE 30-bus system.

Metaheuristic nature-based algorithm for optimal reactive power planning

International Journal of System Assurance Engineering and Management, 2021
An oppositional based Harris Hawks optimization technique enthralled is suggested and implemented to reactive power optimization planning in power systems in this research. As transmission loss minimization is a fundamental criterion for secured power system operation, Var planning has become increasingly important for improved coordination in modern ...

Market oriented reactive power expansion planning

2008 5th International Conference on the European Electricity Market, 2008
This paper presents a method for market oriented reactive power expansion. In this method first ISO proposes some locations for reactive power expansion based on system requirements and operatorpsilas experiences. The investors determine the optimal locations for reactive power expansion by computing annual expansion profit of different candidates ...

Reactive power planning using hybrid method

2004 International Conference on Power System Technology, 2004. PowerCon 2004., 2005
The paper proposes an application of hybrid evolutionary programming to reactive power planning. Reactive power planning is a nonsmooth and nondifferentiable optimization problem for a multiobjective function. The objective functions deals with the minimization of operating cost by reducing real power loss improving the voltage profile and minimizing ...
