Thrombopoietin levels in patients with primary and reactive thrombocytosis
Human c‐mpl ligand or thrombopoietin (TPO) has been proved to be a critical cytokine in the physiological regulation of thrombopoiesis. Previous evidence suggested that TPO production is constitutive and TPO plasma levels are regulated by the platelet–megakaryocyte mass through c‐mpl receptor‐mediated uptake and metabolism.

Platelet Parameters and Aggregation in Essential and Reactive Thrombocytosis
American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1988Platelet characteristics were assessed in 15 patients with essential thrombocytosis (ET), 89 patients with reactive thrombocytosis (RT), and 23 normal controls. A platelet volume distribution width (PDW) greater than or equal to 10.5 was found in 50%, 21%, and 14% of the three groups, respectively (P = 0.01 between patients with ET and patients with RT;

P359 Reactive thrombocytosis in children
Background Thrombocytosis can be classified as primary or secondary, also called reactive. If primary thrombocytosis is a very rare condition in children, reactive thrombocytosis occurs commonly in children and it is associated, especially with infections, anaemia and many other causes.

AbstractBackgroundTo make a definite diagnosis of essential thrombocytosis (ET) from reactive thrombocytosis (RT), the most reliable criteria are the presence of driver mutations, namely JAK2, CALR, or MPL gene mutations. In the absence of these driver mutations, so‐called triple‐negative ET, the differential diagnosis could be difficult. Although bone

The Role of Blood Component Removal in Essential and Reactive Thrombocytosis
Therapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, 2002Abstract: An elevated platelet count is now a common finding in both hospitalized and ambulatory patients with the advent of automated complete blood cell counters. Clinicians may be called upon to make a distinction between a reactive process and a primary hematologic disorder as the cause of a thrombocytosis and to determine whether treatment is ...

Reactive thrombocytosis and risk of subsequent venous thromboembolism: a cohort study
Background: It is uncertain whether reactive thrombocytosis is associated with an increased risk of venous thromboembolism. This study assessed the incidence of reactive thrombocytosis, defined as platelet count≥500×109L-1, at intensive care unit ...

Magnitude of reactive thrombocytosis and associated clinical conditions in dogs
Previous studies on the underlying causes of thrombocytosis have raised scientific interest in its clinical relevance in dogs. The purpose of this study was: (1) to explore the clinical conditions associated with thrombocytosis; (2) to compare platelet ...

Reactive and clonal thrombocytosis
Southern Medical Journal, 2001We quantitated proinflammatory and thrombopoietic cytokines in reactive thrombocytosis (RT) and clonal thrombocytosis (CT) to identify a cytokine profile that might aid in the distinction of these two disorders.Serum levels of cytokines relevant to platelet biology--interleukins 3, 6, 11, and 1beta; thrombopoietin; tumor necrosis factor alpha; and C ...

A woman with Takayasu arteritis is reported who presented with constitutional symptoms and persistent thrombocytosis documented since 3 years before the diagnosis. Disease-specific symptoms such as arm claudication, transient loss of vision, and self-remitting eye ptosis present at the time were apparently missed, because she is a non-English-speaking ...
