Effects of Task on Reading Performance Estimates
Reading is a primary problem for low vision patients and a common functional endpoint for eye disease. However, there is limited agreement on reading assessment methods for clinical outcomes.

Are individual differences in reading speed related to extrafoveal visual acuity and crowding? [PDF]
Readers differ considerably in their speed of self-paced reading. One factor known to influence fixation durations in reading is the preprocessing of words in parafoveal vision.

Macular rotation and reading acuity.

The right visual field advantage and the optimal viewing position effect: On the relation between foveal and parafoveal word recognition [PDF]
Recent developments on the optimal viewing position (OVP) effect suggest that it may be caused by the same factors that underlie the right visual field advantage in word recognition.

SIGNIFICANCE The development of visual acuity has often been looked upon as a function of age. This study considers whether cognition might also be a predictor of acuity in children. The results indicate that cognition is a predictor of acuity and therefore should play a role in vision evaluations and developmental research.

Focusing and orienting spatial attention differently modulate crowding in central and peripheral vision [PDF]
The allocation of attentional resources to a particular location or object in space involves two distinct processes: an orienting process and a focusing process.

Visual Acuity does not Moderate Effect Sizes of Higher-Level Cognitive Tasks. [PDF]
Background/study contextDeclining visual capacities in older adults have been posited as a driving force behind adult age differences in higher-order cognitive functions (e.g., the "common cause" hypothesis of Lindenberger & Baltes, 1994, Psychology ...
