Quantitative urine culture by reagent strip incubation
Urology, 1975The filter paper culture-tetrazolium test ressults have been compared with routine hospital streak plate cultures in 400 random urine specimens. Pseudomonas cultures tended to impart a color change to the test pads which rendered interpretation difficult.

To the Editor.— We read the report of Arlan L. Rosenbloom, MD, and John I. Malone, MD (240:2462, 1978), concerning six diabetic children in whom ketone reagent strip failure resulted in a misdiagnosis of gastroenteritis instead of what proved to be diabetic ketoacidosis. A reply by the manufacturer, appended to the article, implied that these patients

Accuracy of Reagent Strips in Detecting Hypoglycemia in the Emergency Department
Annals of Emergency Medicine, 1998Although reagent strips are commonly used, their reliability to estimate blood glucose concentration and guide administration of dextrose solutions in the emergency department environment has not been proved. We determined the accuracy of visually interpreted reagent strips (Chemstrip bG, Boehringer Mannheim Corp, Indianapolis, IN) and their ability to

Evaluation of Reagent Strips for the Rapid Diagnosis of Nitrite Poisoning
Journal of Analytical Toxicology, 1992Two commercial urine test strips based on the Griess nitrite-specific diazonium salt reaction, having sulfanilamide and para-arsanilic acid as substrates, respectively, were studied as qualitative tests in the rapid diagnosis of nitrite/nitrate poisoning. Their usefulness was compared to other rapid tests, such as the sulfanilic acid-1 naphthylamin and

The Effect of Haematocrit on Reagent Strip Tests for Glucose
Diabetic Medicine, 1991Four blood glucose reagent strips (BM‐Test 1–44, Glucostix, Hypoguard GA, and Exactech), used in conjunction with measuring devices produced by the same manufacturer, were investigated with respect to the influence of haematocrit. The erythrocytes and plasma of fresh blood samples were separated, then remixed in different proportions to achieve a range

A STUDY OF REAGENTS USED IN THE STRIPPING OF BRONZES
Studies in Conservation, 1978The action of 'stripping' agents on exposed bronze alloys was studied. Test pieces of tin-bronze and leaded tin-bronze alloys having compositions typical of ancient objects were cast from modern metal stock, simulating procedures used in antiquity, and subjected to the following reagents: alkaline glycerol, alkaline Rochelle salt, Calgon, citric acid ...

Reagent strips in the evaluation of cerebrospinal fluid glucose levels
Annals of Tropical Paediatrics, 1987The value of Visidex IIR, Haemo-Glukotest 20-800RR, MultistixR and DextrostixR reagent strips--the latter alone or in combination with a glucometer--in the determination of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) glucose levels has been evaluated and compared with the results of a standard glucose oxidase method (Beckman). Fifty-four CSF specimens were evaluated and

Reagent strip diagnosis of UTI in a high-risk population
The American Journal of Emergency Medicine, 2002A study was undertaken to determine the accuracy of reagent strip diagnosis of urinary tract infection (UTI) in patients seen in the ED who were subsequently admitted to hospital with this diagnosis. The reagent strip results of 100 patients were recorded and the sensitivity and specificity of various parameters in the diagnosis of UTI were calculated.
