Dissolution of realgar by Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans in the presence and absence of zerovalent iron: Implications for remediation of iron-deficient realgar tailings [PDF]
Realgar (As4S4)-rich tailings are iron-deficient arsenical mine wastes. The mechanisms and products of the dissolution of realgar by Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans (A. ferrooxidans) in the presence (0.2 g and 2 g) and absence of zerovalent iron (ZVI) are investigated for three stages (each of 7 d with fresh A.

Realgar‐induced nephrotoxicity via ferroptosis in mice
Journal of Applied Toxicology, 2022AbstractFerroptosis is a novel form of iron‐dependent cell death that is involved in arsenic‐induced toxicity. Realgar is an arsenic‐containing Chinese medicine, which can result in nephrotoxicity because of long‐term exposure. However, it remains scientifically unknown whether Realgar is an inducer of ferroptosis in the kidney. This study investigated

Catalytic effect of Ag+ and Cu2+ on leaching realgar (As2S2)
The catalytic effect of Ag+ and Cu2+ on the dissolution of realgar was studied. In the absence of these catalysis ions, little realgar can be leached by Fe3+ either with or without bacteria.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the toxicity of realgar and provide the scientific basis for safety use of realgar in clinic. METHOD Acute toxicity was tested by single oral administration. Chronic toxicity of realgar was tested at different dose levels (5, 10, 20, 80, 160 mg x kg(-1) x d(-1)) which correspond to 1/2, 1, 2, 8, 16 times of human dose levels ...

[Microscopic raman imaging spectra of realgar and light-induced degradation products in realgar].
Guang pu xue yu guang pu fen xi = Guang pu, 2010Light-induced degradation in realgar was studied by means of Raman spectroscopy. The result substantiated the following reaction: An additional S atom is inserted between the As atoms in the As4S4 molecule because As--As bonds are weaker than As--S bonds. It is likely that the resulting As--S--As molecule is too unstable to exist.

Realgar and realgar-containing Liu-Shen-Wan are less acutely toxic than arsenite and arsenate
Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2011Liu-Shen-Wan (LSW) is a widely-used traditional Chinese medicine containing realgar (As(4)S(4)).Realgar has been included in many traditional medicines, and is often taken as arsenite for risk assessment in realgar-containing traditional remedies. Is realgar toxicologically similar to arsenite?Mice were orally given LSW (60 and 200mg/kg; 200mg LSW ...
