Residual radiation injury: impaired regrowth of realimented hypocalorically reared rats
American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1961Hypocalorically reared rats were subjected to single exposures of X ray ranging from 400–700 rad or to repetitive exposures of 200 rad in four doses spaced 1 week apart (total 800 rad). They were allowed to recover for a minimum of 7 weeks and a maximum of 6 months after the last exposure and then returned to an adequate caloric intake. Realimentation

Tissue Nitrogen and Potassium Variation in Trauma, Starvation, and Realimentation
Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, 1984Total body or exchangeable potassium is used as an important indicator of body cell mass in the study of body composition. Body composition studies have been used extensively in the study of nutrition but recent work has questioned the validity of using changes in total body potassium as a measure of protein or nitrogen variation.

Efficiency of energy utilization in undernourished and realimented sheep
Livestock Production Science, 1980Abstract Experiments with seven wether sheep, which were undernourished and then realimented, led to the following results: 1. (1) With a ration low in crude fibre (5.7% of OM), digestibility of energy increased with increasing feeding level. 2.

Effect of Protein Realimentation on Lactational Performance in Rats:
Proceedings of the British Society of Animal Production (1972), 1992Previous research in our laboratory has shown that lactating rats given low protein diets will readily mobilise approximately 20% of body protein to sustain lactational performance. However in such females lactational performance falls markedly around day 6 of lactation and remains at this low level for the remainder of lactation. The objective of this

Visceral oxygen consumption during chronic feed restriction and realimentation in sheep
Journal of Animal Science, 1995The objectives of this study were twofold: first, to estimate the time required to reach equilibrium in splanchnic tissue oxygen (O2) consumption rates after a feed restriction that maintained BW; and second, to estimate the time following a subsequent realimentation required to reach equilibrium. Catheters were placed in a cranial mesenteric vein, the

Parenteral realimentation in the patient with severely impaired nutrition is sometimes associated with the development of a metabolic encephalopathy with coma. The onset of this complication is sudden. The coma is deep, accompanied by signs of neuromuscular hyperexcitability and very marked hyperventilation.

Effect of Prolonged Starvation and Subsequent Realimentation on Serum Proteins
Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism, 1972Electrophoretic fractionation of serum from rats starved for varying periods up to 16 days and subsequently rehabilitated was performed. There was a fall in the albumin, α- and β-globulin with no changes in the total protein and γ-globulin concentrations during starvation.

Immunobiochemical status of sheep exposed to periods of experimental protein deficit and realimentation was studied in 12 sheep (15 mo) randomly distributed into 2 equal groups and fed individually 2 different concentrate supplements along with wheat straw to provide 100% (normal protein, NP) or 50% (low protein, LP) of CP requirements.
