Machine Learning‐Enhanced Random Matrix Theory Design for Human Immunodeficiency Virus Vaccine Development

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This study integrates random matrix theory (RMT) and principal component analysis (PCA) to improve the identification of correlated regions in HIV protein sequences for vaccine design. PCA validation enhances the reliability of RMT‐derived correlations, particularly in small‐sample, high‐dimensional datasets, enabling more accurate detection of ...

IAR‐Net: Tabular Deep Learning Model for Interventionalist's Action Recognition

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study presents IAR‐Net, a deep‐learning framework for catheterization action recognition. To ensure optimality, this study quantifies interoperator similarities and differences using statistical tests, evaluates the distribution fidelity of synthetic data produced by six generative models, and benchmarks multiple deep‐learning models.

In Defence of Reasonable Doubt [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Philosophy, 2016
AbstractIn criminal trials the state must establish, to a particular standard of proof, the defendant's guilt. The most widely used and important standard of proof for criminal conviction is the ‘beyond a reasonable doubt' standard. But what legitimates this standard, rather than an alternative? One view holds the standard of proof should be determined

Rüdin's Unpublished Family Study From the Early 1920s: “On the Inheritance of Manic‐Depressive Insanity”

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part B: Neuropsychiatric Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ernst Rüdin, an important and controversial figure in the history of psychiatric genetics, published only one major empirical study on siblings of dementia praecox (DP) probands in 1916. He conducted a parallel study of siblings of probands with manic‐depressive insanity (MDI), but the resulting monograph, written in the early 1920s, was left ...

From Covalent Traps to Fluorescent Beacons: The Expanding Arsenal of Chemical Probes for Studying Ubiquitin and Ubiquitin‐Like Proteins

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A large variety of chemistry‐based ubiquitin probes have been developed. ABSTRACT Ubiquitin (Ub) and ubiquitin‐like proteins (Ubls) orchestrate diverse cellular processes through reversible post‐translational modification of target proteins. Their conjugation is governed by a cascade of E1 activating, E2 conjugating, and E3 ligating enzymes, while ...

Unbundling is over-rated: On the value of contributing to an edited book [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Terry Clague sheds reasonable doubt on the assertion that contributing to edited book chapters is a waste of time. The sole aim of publication isn’t necessarily to maximise citations.
