Evaluation of schmidt rebound hammer testing: A critical approach

Bulletin of the International Association of Engineering Geology, 1993
In the present paper, a critical approach to the evaluation of Schmidt hammer testing is attempted. Through a statistical analysis of field measurements on sandstone blocks from the archaeological site of Delphi (Greece), it was shown that there is an inconsistency in the correction method proposed by the manufacturer, in relation to the direction of ...

Factors affecting the reliability of assessing the concrete strength by rebound hammer and cores

Construction and Building Materials, 2017
Abstract To assess concrete strength in a structure, nondestructive technique (NDT) like rebound hammer is combined with destructive technique (coring tests) in order to implement a relationship ‘‘conversion model” between the compressive strength and, NDT measurements.

Testing of SFRC by the Schmidt Rebound Hammer

MRS Proceedings, 1990
AbstractThe rebound number, its relationship to fundamental frequency and correlations with compressive strength and erosion - abrasion resistance are discussed. Nine mix proportions were used. The w/c ratios were varied from 0.30 to 0.65. The volumetric percentage of hooked steel fibres was varied from 0.25 to 2.0 vol.% at the w/c of 0.30; at the ...

Applying Support Vector Machines in Rebound Hammer Test

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
There are several nondestructive testing techniques available to test the compressive strength of the concrete and the Rebound Hammer Test is among one of the fast and economical methods. Nevertheless, it is found that the prediction results from Rebound Hammer Test are not satisfying (over 20% mean absolute percentage error).

Evaluation of Schmidt Hammer Rebound Hardness Test Holders

Geotechnical Testing Journal, 1984
Abstract An evaluation is made of three different holders for Schmidt hammer tests on rock core in the laboratory, including steel angle, V-notch, and semicircular groove holders. The differences are small, but it is shown that the V-notch holder gives consistently higher rebound hardness values.

Analysis of Impact Hammer Rebound to Estimate Rock Drillability

Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, 2000
¶In this paper, the piston rebound common to both the Schmidt Impact Hammer and down-hole hammer drills has been analyzed and calculated by means of stress wave theory and the energy conservation law. A quantitative relationship between the amount of rebound of the piston and the impact resistance index, or hardness of the rock, has been established ...

An appreciation of the Schmidt rebound hammer

Magazine of Concrete Research, 1958
Summary The Schmidt rebound hammer is described and some theoretical aspects underlying the functioning of the hammer are discussed and supported by some experimental results. The method of performing the test and its limitations under different conditions are described. Correlations with rate of wear of concrete and compressive strength on the basis
