An Assessment of the Reliability of Rebound Hammer for Moist-Cured Specimens

2020 Advances in Science and Engineering Technology International Conferences (ASET), 2020
This rebound hammer is a non-destructive concrete testing instrument. The instrument which measures the surface hardness of concrete is estimating the concrete compression strength by measuring the rebound number through a spring-loaded mass impacting against the concrete testing surface.

Stress and Displacement Propagation in a Drilling Tube Due to Rebounding and Non-Rebounding Hammer Impact Mechanisms

Earth and Space 2012, 2012
This paper discusses results of finite element investigation of two different mechanisms to drive a drilling instrument designed for lunar exploration. The instrument consists of a hollow tubular rod, one end of which rests upon the substrate to be drilled and the other end is actuated upon by a powered mechanism.

Testing of concrete by rebound method: Leeb versus Schmidt hammers

Materials and Structures, 2018
Hardness is considered as an important property of concrete; it can be used to estimate compressive strength of concrete in situ. The classic Schmidt rebound hammer is the most popular nondestructive method to measure concrete surface hardness, while the Leeb rebound hammer has been extensively studied in geological and metallographic fields over ...

Clast transport history influences Schmidt hammer rebound values

Earth Surface Processes and Landforms, 2020
AbstractThe Schmidt hammer (SH) is widely used in geomorphology for relative‐ and calibrated‐exposure age dating surfaces and deposits within landforms. This study employs a laboratory‐based methodology to assess the effects of surface roughness, clast roundness, and clast volume on SH rebound values (R‐values) by analyzing samples from three modern ...

Advancing the Rebound Hammer Method: A New Concrete Test Hammer

2011
The concrete test hammer patented by Proceq’s Ernst O. Schmidt at the beginning of the 1950’s is without a doubt the most widely used NDT instrument worldwide for rapid assessment of the condition of a concrete structure. Despite this fact, the validity of the method remains a hotly debated topic amongst experts in the NDT field. This is largely due to

The performance prediction of impact hammers from Schmidt hammer rebound values in Istanbul metro tunnel drivages

Tunnelling and Underground Space Technology, 2002
The construction of the first metro line in Istanbul was realized between Galata and Beyoglu by a French Engineer Henry Gavand in January 1875. Six different metro projects were submitted since then to the Turkish authorities. The construction of 7-km metro tunnels phase 1 started in 1992 and the metro line of the phase 1 is opened to the service in ...

ISRM Suggested method for determination of the Schmidt hammer rebound hardness: Revised version

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences, 2008
With its portable, simple and affordable attributes, the Schmidt hammer (SH) is an ideal index apparatus, which underlies its increasing popularity and expanding range of applications. The SH rebound hardness value (R) is perhaps the most frequently used index in rock mechanics practice for estimating the uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) and the ...
