Numerical Simulation and Experimental Study of Piston Rebound Energy Storage Characteristics for Nitrogen-Hydraulic Combined Impact Hammer

open access: yesMachines
The objective of this study is to analyze the piston rebound energy storage characteristics of the nitrogen-hydraulic combined impact hammer and to investigate the manner in which the piston rebound energy is converted and utilized.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

An Estimate of the Tensile Strength Based On P-Wave Velocity and Schmidt Hardness Rebound Number [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Geography and Geology, 2015
Tunnels, roads, bridges, dams, power plants, etc., are constructed in rock formation. Various rock parameters are important for the design of these structures such as compressive and tensile strengths of the embedded rocks. Preparation of samples and performing uniaxial and Brazilian tensile tests require a lot of time and money; and they are not ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Analysis of Number of Players Involved in Rebound Situations in Euroleague Basketball Games [PDF]

open access: yesThe Open Sports Sciences Journal, 2011
The aim of the present study was to identify the influence of number of players involved in dispute of rebound in basketball games. To do so, 48 games corresponding to the 2009-2010 Top 16 of the Euroleague were analyzed. The sample was composed of 2170 situations (unsuccessful field-goals gathered which generate rebound), and the analyzed variables were:

Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.
