Evaluation of four scoring systems in prognostication of acute pancreatitis for elderly patients
Background To evaluate the ability of four scoring systems (Ranson, BISAP, Glasgow, and APACHE II) to predict outcomes of acute pancreatitis (AP) in elderly patients.

Combining total and differential somatic cell count to screen for mastitis [PDF]
Somatic cell count (SCC) has been extensively used as indicator of udder health and milk quality. Recent developments in milk-testing technology have led to cell differentiation in milk in a high throughput manner.

Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) Curves
Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves are used ubiquitously to evaluate covariates, markers, or features as potential predictors in binary problems. We distinguish raw ROC diagnostics and ROC curves, elucidate the special role of concavity in interpreting and modelling ROC curves, and establish an equivalence between ROC curves and cumulative ...

Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis has been widely used in two-class problems. However, in practice, three-class problems are frequently encountered, especially in the area of medicine. To evaluate the performance of three-class classifiers,

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Understanding receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curves
Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves summarise graphically the trade-off between sensitivity and specificity for diagnostic tests.1 We will describe how to interpret these graphs, but first we need to understand how we assess diagnostic test accuracy and why we are interested in these concepts of sensitivity and specificity.

Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) Curve: Practical Review for Radiologists [PDF]
The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, which is defined as a plot of test sensitivity as they coordinate versus its 1-specificity or false positive rate (FPR) as the x coordinate, is an effective method of evaluating the performance of diagnostic tests. The purpose of this article is to provide a nonmathematical introduction to ROC analysis.

Chemotherapy side effects significantly impact cancer survivors' quality of life. Using protein levels in blood samples from breast cancer patients before and after 12 weeks of taxane treatment, we detected treatment‐dependent changes in calcium signaling and aging pathways associated with cancer recurrence.
