Hornberger's Continua of Biliteracy Model: Perspectives From My Neck of the Woods in the Global South

open access: yesTESOL Quarterly, Volume 59, Issue 4, Page 2398-2413, December 2025.
Abstract Hornberger's Continuum of Biliteracy (CoBi) model is a precursor to approaches such as translanguaging and the New London Group's multiliteracies. CoBi enables us to analyse and address language and literacy practices in education in a structured way.

A new way to geoengineer landscapes using computer‐based landform evolution models

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 50, Issue 13, October 2025.
Computer‐based Landscape Evolution Models can be used to both design and evaluate new landforms. Abstract The design and construction of post‐mining landforms is a complex undertaking where any structure requires integration with underlying materials and the surrounding unmined or undisturbed landscape.

Defining ground truth for prostate segmentation of transrectal ultrasound images: Inter‐ and intra‐observer variability of manual versus semi‐automatic methods

open access: yesMedical Physics, Volume 52, Issue 8, August 2025.
Abstract Background Accurate prostate segmentation in transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) imaging is essential for diagnosis, treatment planning, and developing artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms. Although manual segmentation is often recommended as the ground truth for AI training, it is time‐consuming, prone to inter‐ and intra‐observer variability ...

Enhancing proton therapy quality assurance with custom‐designed Octopoint phantom and Gafchromic film

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 26, Issue 7, July 2025.
Abstract Background Proton therapy offers precise tumor targeting while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue, making it especially valuable for treating tumors near critical organs and in pediatric patients. However, its success depends on accurate beam delivery, requiring rigorous quality assurance (QA) to maintain treatment precision and ...

How to Study the Mechanobiology of Intestinal Epithelial Organoids? A Review of Culture Supports, Imaging Techniques, and Analysis Methods

open access: yesBiology of the Cell, Volume 117, Issue 4, April 2025.
Mechanical forces can influence biological processes in both healthy and pathological contexts. Organoids are 3D structures derived from stem cells that can be used to model tissues and organs in vitro. The objective of this review is to present the different ways to culture and observe organoids under a microscope to study mechanical interactions in ...

Lycium barbarum Polysaccharide Alleviates Amyloid‐β‐Induced Toxicity in the Caenorhabditis elegans Model

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 6, Issue 2, Page 819-836, March 2025.
LBP treatment improved AD symptoms, including oxidative stress and Aβ aggregation in the nematodes, primarily through the modulation of two master regulators, DAF‐16 and HSF‐1. DAF‐16 activation induced the expression of antioxidant genes to eliminate ROS.

Standing to praise

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Philosophy, Volume 32, Issue 4, Page 1235-1254, December 2024.
Abstract This paper argues that praise is governed by a norm of standing, namely the evaluative commitment condition. Even when the target of praise is praiseworthy and known to be so by the praiser, praise can be inappropriate owing to the praiser's lacking the relevant evaluative commitment.
