Reduced Metabotropic Glutamate Receptor Type 5 Availability in the Epileptogenic Hippocampus: An in vitro Study

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2022
Abnormalities in the expression of metabotropic glutamate receptor type 5 (mGluR5) have been observed in the hippocampus of patients with drug-resistant mesial Temporal Lobe Epilepsy (mTLE).

Ketamine, but not propofol, anaesthesia is regulated by metabotropic glutamate 5 receptors [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Anaesthesia, 2006
Group I metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs) have been reported to regulate N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor function in various brain regions. The selective mGluR5 antagonist 2-methyl-6-(phenylethynyl)-pyridine (MPEP) can potentiate NMDA antagonists such as PCP and MK-801-induced behavioural responses.

Loss of Metabotropic Glutamate Receptor 5 Function on Peripheral Benzodiazepine Receptor in Mice Prenatally Exposed to LPS. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Parental microglial induced neuroinflammation, triggered by bacterial- or viral infections, can induce neuropsychiatric disorders like schizophrenia and autism to offspring in animal models.

The glutamatergic compounds sarcosine and N-acetylcysteine ameliorate prepulse inhibition deficits in metabotropic glutamate 5 receptor knockout mice

open access: yesPsychopharmacology, 2010
RationaleMice lacking metabotropic glutamate receptors 5 (mGluR5) exhibit reduced glutamatergic function and behavioral abnormalities, including deficits in prepulse inhibition (PPI) of the startle response that may be relevant to schizophrenia.

Autoimmune encephalitis with mGluR5 antibodies: A case series from China and review of the literature

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2023
BackgroundOnly 15 patients of autoimmune encephalitis with metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 (mGluR5) antibodies have been reported worldwide since 2011, mostly from western countries.

The role of metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 in the pathogenesis of mood disorders and addiction:Combining preclinical evidence with human Positron Emission Tomography (PET) studies

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2015
In the present review, we deliver an overview of the involvement of metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 (mGluR5) activity and density in pathological anxiety, mood disorders and addiction.

Metabotropic Glutamate Receptor Subtype 5 Antagonists MPEP and MTEP [PDF]

open access: yesCNS Drug Reviews, 2006
ABSTRACTGlutamate regulates the function of central nervous system (CNS), in part, through the cAMP and/or IP3/DAG second messenger‐associated metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs). The mGluR5 antagonist 2‐methyl‐6‐(phenylethynyl)‐pyridine (MPEP) has been extensively used to elucidate potential physiological and pathophysiological functions of ...

Plasma endocannabinoids in cocaine dependence and their relation to cerebral metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 density

open access: yesTranslational Psychiatry, 2023
Animal models indicate that the endocannabinoid system (ECS) plays a modulatory role in stress and reward processing, both crucially impaired in addictive disorders.

Presbycusis: Pathology, Signal Pathways, and Therapeutic Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In ARHL, the stria vascularis, acting as a cochlear battery, gradually loses its ability to maintain the endocochlear potential, leading to impaired hair cell function and progressive hearing loss. Single‐cell sequencing reveals age‐related cellular changes in the cochlea, providing insights into the underlying mechanisms of aging and potential ...

Metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 inhibits α-synuclein-induced microglia inflammation to protect from neurotoxicity in Parkinson’s disease

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation, 2021
Background Microglia activation induced by α-synuclein (α-syn) is one of the most important factors in Parkinson’s disease (PD) pathogenesis. However, the molecular mechanisms by which α-syn exerts neuroinflammation and neurotoxicity remain largely ...
