Plasma Levels of Tumor Necrosis Factor α and Soluble Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptors in Patients With Narcolepsy [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Internal Medicine, 2006
Narcolepsy is a disabling sleep disorder characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness, cataplexy, hypnagogic hallucinations, and sleep paralysis. Recent studies suggest that the immune system might play a pathogenic role pointing to a possible involvement of inflammatory cytokines. We investigated a sample of 30 patients with narcolepsy in comparison ...

PANoptosis in the pathogenesis of myelodysplastic syndromes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PANoptosis, a combination of three types of programmed cell death, is mediated by a large protein complex called a PANoptosome. In healthy bone marrow hematopoietic cells, PANoptosis is restricted by inhibitory signaling. In MDS, bone marrow cells become sensitive to the PANoptotic stimuli due to the aberrant inactivation of inhibitory signaling or ...

Roles of tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6 in regulating bone cancer pain via TRPA1 signal pathway and beneficial effects of inhibition of neuro-inflammation and TRPA1

open access: yesMolecular Pain, 2019
Background Pain is one of the most common and distressing symptoms suffered by patients with progression of bone cancer; however, the mechanisms responsible for hyperalgesia are not well understood.

Somatostatin receptor 4 (SSTR4) is a tumor suppressor in cutaneous and head & neck squamous cell carcinomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study identifies somatostatin receptor 4 (Sstr4) as a critical tumor suppressor against skin and head/neck cancers (HNSCC, cSCC, and BCC). The loss of Sstr4 removes a check on cell growth, causing hyperactivation of the MAPK‐ERK signaling pathway (↑).

Role of Tumour Necrosis Factor Alpha (TNFa) in ischaemic and pharmacological postconditioning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Includes bibliographical references (leaves 158-192).Ischaemic postconditioning (IPostC) is a powerful protective mechanism that activates prosurvival intrinsic signalling cascades to limit reperfusion injury but the exact signalling pathway involved in ...

Tumor necrosis factor alpha improves glucose homeostasis in diabetic mice independent with tumor necrosis factor receptor 1 and tumor necrosis factor receptor 2

open access: yesEndocrine Journal, 2018
Type 2 diabetes is a serious threat to human health all over the world. It is particularly important to look for the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes. Researchers have found that obesity was associated with a broad chronic inflammatory response and type 2 diabetes.

Profiling neoadjuvant therapy response in rectal cancer using meta‐analysis of publicly available transcriptomic RNA‐seq datasets

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates publicly available transcriptomic datasets to identify molecular signatures associated with response to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy in locally advanced rectal cancer. By analyzing a combination of multiple cohorts with bioinformatics approaches, we reveal biological pathways and immune‐related features that may improve ...

The TNFSF Members APRIL and BAFF and Their Receptors TACI, BCMA, and BAFFR in Oncology, With a Special Focus in Breast Cancer

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2020
Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) superfamily consists of 19 ligands and 29 receptors and is related to multiple cellular events from proliferation and differentiation to apoptosis and tumor reduction. In this review, we overview the whole system, and we focus

Predictive and prognostic biomarkers of Bacillus Calmette‐Guérin therapy failure in bladder cancer patients: A systematic review

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
High‐risk bladder cancer is typically treated with Bacillus Calmette‐Guérin (BCG), but 30–40% of patients relapse. No FDA‐ or CE‐approved biomarkers currently predict or prognosticate BCG failure. We systematically reviewed the literature and identified 72 eligible studies, revealing several promising biomarkers associated with BCG treatment response ...

Circulating endothelial progenitor cells and inflammatory markers in type 1 diabetes after an acute session of aerobic exercise [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Endocrinology and Metabolism
Objective: To determine circulating endothelial progenitor cells (EPC) counts and levels of inflammatory markers in individuals with and without type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) in response to an intense aerobic exercise session. Subjects and methods: In
