Prenatal Diagnosis and Molecular Cytogenetic Characterization of a Small Supernumerary Marker Chromosome Derived from Chromosome 18 and Associated With a Reciprocal Translocation Involving Chromosomes 17 And 18

open access: yesTaiwanese Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2010
Objective: Prenatal diagnosis of small supernumerary marker chromosomes (sSMC) gives rise to difficulties in genetic counseling, and requires molecular cytogenetic technologies such as spectral karyotyping, fluorescence in situ hybridization, multicolor ...

The SseC translocon component in Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium is chaperoned by SscA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: Salmonella enterica is a causative agent of foodborne gastroenteritis and the systemic disease known as typhoid fever. This bacterium uses two type three secretion systems (T3SSs) to translocate protein effectors into host cells to manipulate

Complex Variant t(9;22) Chromosome Translocations in Five Cases of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia

open access: yesAdvances in Hematology, 2009
The Philadelphia (Ph1) chromosome arising from the reciprocal t(9;22) translocation is found in more than 90% of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients and results in the formation of the chimeric fusion gene BCR-ABL.

Translocation (8;21) in acute nonlymphocytic leukemia delineated by chromosomal in situ suppression hybridization [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
In situ suppression hybridization with recombinant bacteriophage DNA libraries for chromosomes 8 and 21 was performed in two cases of acute nonlymphocytic leukemia, type FAB M2.

Morphoproteomic profiling of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway in desmoplastic small round cell tumor (EWS/WT1), Ewing's sarcoma (EWS/FLI1) and Wilms' tumor(WT1). [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
BackgroundDesmoplastic small round cell tumor (DSRCT) is a rare sarcoma in adolescents and young adults. The hallmark of this disease is a EWS-WT1 translocation resulting from apposition of the Ewing's sarcoma (EWS) gene with the Wilms' tumor (WT1) gene.

ESF-EMBO symposium "molecular biology and innovative therapies in sarcomas of childhood and adolescence" Sept 29–Oct 4, Polonia Castle Pultusk, Poland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) and Ewing sarcoma (ES) are among the most common pediatric sarcomas (Arndt et al., 2012). Despite sarcomas representing a highly heterogeneous group of tumors, ES and alveolar RMS (ARMS) typically share one common genetic ...

De novo translocation heterozygote with three reciprocal translocations. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Genetics, 1983
An extremely rare case of a child with three balanced reciprocal translocations involving six different autosomes is described. These abnormalities have apparently arisen de novo and seem to have only relatively minor phenotypic effects. The meiotic possibilities are discussed and cytogenetic markers suggest that the damage may have occurred in a ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Reassessment of the evolution of wheat chromosomes 4A, 5A, and 7B. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Key messageComparison of genome sequences of wild emmer wheat and Aegilops tauschii suggests a novel scenario of the evolution of rearranged wheat chromosomes 4A, 5A, and 7B.
