Two‐Way Shape Memory Polymer Composite Gripper for Adaptive Robotic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A two‐way shape memory polymer (SMP) composite is developed with intrinsic shape‐changing capability driven solely by temperature, eliminating external actuation loads. Embedding the SMP in a low‐stiffness elastomeric matrix enabled reversible transformations during heating and cooling cycles.

Computerized measurement of pulmonary conductance and elastic recoil [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
A system devloped for on-line measurement of transpulmonary pressure, gas flow at the mouth, change in expired volume and plethysmograph volume uses a minicomputer to control a multiplexed analog to digital converter.

Muon g − 2 anomaly and neutrino magnetic moments

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2021
We show that a unified framework based on an SU(2) H horizontal symmetry which generates a naturally large neutrino transition magnetic moment and explains the XENON1T electron recoil excess also predicts a positive shift in the muon anomalous magnetic ...

Fully 3D‐Printed Wave‐Wound Electromagnetic Motors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This work presents the first fully 3D‐printed wave‐wound electromagnetic motors, which are created using conductive nanoparticle inks, carbon‐filled nylon polymers, and surface mount components. These motors can achieve a stall torque of 7.62N·mmA−1$7.62 \nobreakspace N{\cdot }mm A^{-1}$ and efficiency of 28.2 %, which approaches the performance of ...

Dynamic modeling and sliding mode control of single cylinder double annular channels MRF damper [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In order to satisfy the adjusting of recoil system of the gun to different firing conditions, a magneto-rheological fluid (MRF) damper with double annular channel is proposed, which can satisfy the maximum recoil displacement and reduce the force acting ...

The Effects of Stiff Stent-Grafts on Segmental Aortic Stiffness and Left Ventricular Mass: A Pilot Swine Model Study

open access: yesGraduate Medical Education Research Journal, 2019
Mentor: Jason MacTaggart Program: General Surgery Introduction: Endovascular stent-grafting is a first-line therapy for many aortic pathologies, but stent-grafts are constructed using non-compliant materials that stiffen a segment of the aorta.

Magnetic Droplet Manipulation on Open Surfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Recent advances in the manipulation of magnetic droplets demonstrate various manipulations on open surfaces, including transport, splitting, merging, and force‐controlled motion, enabled by magnetic particles and external fields. ABSTRACT Manipulation of liquids on a smaller scale enables applications in various fields, particularly diagnostics and ...

Machine Learning Enables Inverse Design of Optically Driven Microscopic Metavehicles

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Machine‐learning‐based inverse design is used optimize “metavehicles” — flat microparticles based on metagratings that generate a strong lateral optical force from normally incident light. The optimized design exhibits a force efficiency of ∼88% and a measured propulsion speed in water much higher than previously reported, demonstrating that inverse ...

Recoil-induced ultrafast molecular rotation probed by dynamical rotational Doppler effect [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Observing and controlling molecular motion and in particular rotation are fundamental topics in physics and chemistry. To initiate ultrafast rotation, one needs a way to transfer a large angular momentum to the molecule. As a showcase, this was performed
