Summary Forty patients were given alfentanil 8 μg/kg as a supplement to either methohexitone or Althesin anaesthesia. Satisfactory anaesthesia and recovery were seen in all patients. Testing revealed very rapid recovery of psychomotor function. There were no differences between the two groups.
