Variation of inflammatory dynamics and mediators in primiparous cows after intramammary challenge with Escherichia coli [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The objective of the current study was to investigate (i) the outcome of experimentally induced Escherichia coli mastitis in primiparous cows during early lactation in relation with production of eicosanoids and inflammatory indicators, and (ii) the ...

TRPM8 levels determine tumor vulnerability to channel agonists

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TRPM8 is a Ca2+ permissive channel. Regardless of the amount of its transcript, high levels of TRPM8 protein mark different tumors, including prostate, breast, colorectal, and lung carcinomas. Targeting TRPM8 with channel agonists stimulates inward calcium currents followed by emptying of cytosolic Ca2+ stores in cancer cells.

Prediction of core body temperature using infra-red thermography in buffaloes

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science
Rectal thermometers are commonly used to assess animal health, but non-invasive methods like thermal imaging are gaining popularity for their ease.

A Complex Interrelationship between Rectal Temperature and Dairy Cows’ Performance under Heat Stress Conditions

open access: yes, 2016
Upper limit of thermal stability and subsequent rise of thermoregulatory functions are affected by body temperature. This study was designed to determine the effects of rectal temperature (RT) on dairy cows’ performance (heart rates (HR), respiratory ...

Comprehensive profiling of lncRNAs and mRNAs enriched in small extracellular vesicles for early noninvasive detection of colorectal cancer: diagnostic panel assembly and extensive validation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Small extracellular vesicles are a promising source of diagnostic molecules. We conducted a comprehensive study, including transcriptome profiling and RT‐qPCR validation on large cohorts of samples. Diagnostic panels enabling sensitive detection of colorectal cancer and precancerous lesions were established. Some molecules were differentially expressed

Comparison of Digital Rectal Thermometry and a Non-Contact Veterinary Infrared Thermometer in Cats: Identifying Alternative Sites to Rectal Measurement

open access: yesVeterinary Sciences
Background: Rectal temperature measurement in cats, while crucial, can cause discomfort and stress. This study evaluated non-contact infrared thermometry as a less invasive alternative. Methods: A total of 95 cats were enrolled in this study.

A comparison of tympanic and rectal temperatures in term NIGERIAN neonates

open access: yesBMC Pediatrics, 2012
Background Tympanic thermometry has come as a suitable alternative to traditional thermometry because of its safety and ease of use. However, it is still yet to gain wide acceptance in African settings due to conflicting results on its accuracy, thus ...

Effects of ambient temperature and relative humidity and measurement site on the cow’s body temperature measured by infrared thermography

open access: yes浙江大学学报. 农业与生命科学版, 2020
We assessed the effects of ambient temperature and relative humidity on the infrared thermography (IRT) temperature of dairy cows, and evaluated the IRT body surface temperatures as effective surrogates of cow’s rectal temperature. The rectal temperature

The ACCEPTance of automation: refining circulating tumor cells enumeration for improved metastatic colorectal cancer prognosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study highlights the potential of automated enumeration using the ACCEPT software to refine circulating tumor cell (CTC) detection in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). The automated method demonstrates improved accuracy and reduced variability compared to the manual approach.
