An acoustic rectifier

Nature Materials, 2010
The detection of acoustic signals is of relevance for a range of practical applications, for example in medical diagnostics. However, whereas rectification of electric current and other energy forms such as thermal flux has been demonstrated, acoustic rectification has not yet been achieved. Here, on the basis of the earlier theoretical proposal of an '

Noise properties of rectifying and non-rectifying nanopores

Nanotechnology, 2019
Abstract Achieving a full understanding of the noise in resistive pulse sensing experiments is central to the development of this important single molecule technique. Here, we present a comprehensive study of the noise properties of conical glass nanopores as components in an ionic circuit by studying the power ...

The rectifier calculus

Electrical Engineering, 1940
INITIAL efforts in rectifier engineering have quite naturally been directed toward mechanical design. But as the proportion of industrial power load carried by rectifiers is becoming large, due to electrolytic plants (electrochemical industries) and other new applications, it is important to be able to solve the more difficult circuit problems without ...

Rectifying Behavior in Coulomb Blockades: Charging Rectifiers

Physical Review Letters, 2002
We introduce examples of tunneling and diffusive, Coulomb-regulated rectifiers based on the Coulomb blockade formalism in discrete and continuum systems, respectively. Nonlinearity of the interacting dynamics profoundly enhances the inherent asymmetry of the devices by reducing the Hilbert space of accessible states.
