Recurrent Corneal Erosion

1976
Recurrent corneal erosion is a disorder of epithelial adherence. It is common and familiar and in the majority of patients it is the first sign of corneal disease in that individual. In many it is secondary to trauma, in a few it is secondary to existing corneal disease. Inheritance of recurrent erosion has in the past been regarded as rare, but we may

Recurrent corneal erosions

Postgraduate Medicine, 1995
The primary care physician should be aware of recurrent corneal erosion, a condition that is quite common but is often misdiagnosed. Most cases are a result of minor corneal abrasion, after which the corneal epithelium undergoes a cycle of breakdown and healing that may last for months.

[Recurrent corneal erosion].

Bulletin de la Societe belge d'ophtalmologie, 1994
Anterior stromal puncture has been proposed as a new treatment for recurrent corneal erosion. A soft technique with a curved needle minimize scarring and prevent corneal perforation. An insertion depth of 0.1 mm was sufficient to cause the production of new basement membrane attached to the anterior stroma. GEGGEL and coll.

[Corneal puncture in recurrent corneal erosion].

Der Ophthalmologe : Zeitschrift der Deutschen Ophthalmologischen Gesellschaft, 1994
On the long term, conventional therapy of recurrent erosion (posttraumatic, dystrophic, idiopathic) by patching, bandage lenses and debridement often does not avoid recurrences. Between February 1990 and June 1992 we performed anterior stromal punctures in 47 eyes of 45 patients with recurrent erosion which had not responded to conventional therapy ...

Recurrent corneal erosions.

Journal of the American Optometric Association, 1986
Sharp pain, profuse tearing, and photophobia, usually upon awakening, are the hallmark symptoms of recurrent corneal erosions (RCE). The underlying histopathology of RCE is an abnormal basement membrane with loss of adherence of the overlying epithelium. RCE is associated with trauma, corneal dystrophies, and other miscellaneous conditions.
