General and central obesities were associated with increased risk of inflammatory bowel disease: A large‐scale prospective cohort study

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Prior evidence suggested inconsistent findings in terms of the relationship between obesity and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) occurrence. We demonstrated that both general and central obesities were associated with an increased risk of developing IBD, ulcerative colitis, and Crohn's disease in a large‐scale prospective cohort.

International Practice Variation in Post‐Tonsillectomy Hemorrhage: A Survey Study of Pediatric Otolaryngologists

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background A significant complication of pediatric tonsillectomy is post‐tonsillectomy bleeding (PTB). Management within and outside of the operating room (OR) is not standardized. We consolidated international similarities and differences in PTB management.

Polyamide Acid–Based Surface Modification of Poly(p‐Phenylene Benzobisoxazole) Fibres Reinforcing Syntactic Foam for Using Them as High‐Performance Insulating Core Material

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The insulating core is an important part of pillar composite insulators used in power transmission systems. Traditional insulating core materials suffer from various problems that can threaten the reliability of insulated equipment. Syntactic foam (SF) exhibits excellent properties, such as a low density, water penetration resistance and high ...

Trade‐offs across life history stages and social association types shape winter communal roosting in a long‐lived raptor

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Our study demonstrates how life history trade‐offs and pair bonds influence winter roosting in red kites. Analysing long‐term GPS data from 216 individuals, we reveal marked behavioural plasticity in communal roosting: young, non‐breeding males are most likely to join communal roosts, whereas breeding pairs predominantly roost together near their ...

Demographic buffering in natural populations: A multi‐level perspective

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
We introduce a multi‐level framework that unites stochastic elasticities with nonlinear selection to test demographic buffering. Applying it across mammals reveals a key insight: ecological robustness to variability often decouples from evolutionary constraint, reshaping how we understand resilience under environmental stochasticity.

Fronting in Old Catalan: Asymmetries between Narration and Reported Speech1

open access: yesTransactions of the Philological Society, Volume 123, Issue 1, Page 1-28, March 2025.
Abstract This article explores the distribution, syntax, and information structure of XVS clauses in the narrative text and the reported speech of a thirteenth‐century Old Catalan chronicle, the Llibre dels Fets. It is shown that XVS occurs mainly within reported speech and in embedded clauses.

A Recurrent Nova

Nature, 1946
ON-February 10 the variable star T Coronae Borealis, normally of magnitude 9, was seen to have blazed up to magnitude 3. This star had a typical nova outburst in 1866, when it was the first nova to be examined spectroscopically. Unlike other novae, its spectrum after fading was of late type with strong absorption bands of titanium oxide.

The Recurrent Novae and Their Relation with Classical Novae

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2002
Recurrent novae (RNe) are a subclass of cataclysmic variables classified based on recorded observations of more than one nova outburst. They form a small, but heterogeneous group of objects, with 10 known members, that undergo classical nova‐like outbursts, with the significant differences being in the amplitude and the frequency of the outbursts.

Studies of Classical and Recurrent Novae

Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, 1992
Novae belong to the cataclysmic-variable class of objects. These objects are interacting binary star systems consisting of a Roche-lobe filling secondary, on or near the main sequence, losing hydrogen-rich material through the inner-Lagrangian point onto an accretion disk that surrounds the primary, which, in most cases, is a white dwarf.

The Evolutionary Significance of Recurrent Novae

International Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1979
Within the past few years, it has become increasingly apparent that common novae and dwarf novae must owe their origin to binary systems of much larger initial separation than they now have (Paczynski 1976; Ritter 1975, 1976; Webbink 1975). This was demanded by the realization that the white dwarfs in these binaries are generally quite massive (see for
