Immunohistological Studies on Tonsils of Recurrent Tonsillitis and Tonsils with Focal Infections

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1988
In this study, two experiments were made to investigate the immunological pathogenesis of PPP, a skin disease of so-called focal infections. One was the immunohistological study on tonsils with PPP and recurrent tonsillitis. In the investigation, monoclonal antibodies against T lymphocytes and anti-immunoglobulin antibodies were used to reveal the ...

The treatment of recurrent tonsillitis in adults

The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1986
SummaryA prospective study comparing surgical and antibiotic treatment for recurrent tonsillitis in adults suggests that, whilst tonsillectomy is very effective, adequate medical treatment provides an equally good alternative in the majority of patients.

Recurrent Lingual Tonsil Hyperplasia

Archives of Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery, 2003
Clinically significant lingual tonsil hypertrophy is a rare entity in children. We describe a child, status postadenotonsillectomy, with recurrent hypertrophy of the lingual tonsil after carbon dioxide laser ablation. Workup was negative for immunodeficiency, cystic fibrosis, and allergies.

Recurrent tonsillitis and growth in children

International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology, 1988
Anecdotal observations suggest an association between tonsil disease and growth retardation. This study compared height, weight and skinfold thickness measurements between a group of children (44) suffering from recurrent tonsillitis for a mean duration of 4 years, and a control group (34).

Indication of Tonsillectomy for Recurrent Tonsillitis

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1988
The indication of tonsillectomy for recurrent tonsillitis was discussed from the standpoint of clinical immunology. Elevated serum IgG was observed in 29.8% of the patients under 8 years of age preoperatively. In contrast, in 25% of patients between 9-15 years of age, serum IgG was low preoperatively.

Aerobic and Anaerobic Bacteria in Tonsils of Children with Recurrent Tonsillitis

Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1981
Tonsils were obtained from 50 children suffering from recurrent tonsillitis. Patients' ages ranged from 2.5 to 17 years (mean 6 years); 29 were males and 21 females. The tonsils were sectioned in half after heat searing of the surface and the core material was cultured for aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms.

The lymphoepithelial organization of the tonsil: An immunohistochemical study in chronic recurrent tonsillitis

The Journal of Pathology, 1995
AbstractInteractions between leukocytes and crypt epithelium were extensively investigated in 12 cases of chronic recurrent tonsillitis, using immunohistochemistry and cytofluorimetric analysis of cell suspensions. Intraepithelial leukocytes are a mixed cell population composed of 50 per cent CD20‐positive B lymphocytes, 40 per cent T lymphocytes with ...

Neutrophils are Hyperactive in Recurrent Tonsillitis

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 2002
The pathogenesis of recurrent tonsillitis has not been fully explored. Most studies in this field have focused on pathogenic bacteria whereas less research has been done concerning the host defense. In earlier studies it was shown that there is an active cellular defense in the tonsillar surface secretion, consisting of phagocytes, and therefore in ...

Recurrent unilateral tonsillitis secondary to a penetrating foreign body in the tonsil

The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1998
AbstractWe report a case of an impacted foreign body in the tonsil presenting as recurrent unilateral tonsillitis. A completely embedded foreign body should be considered in cases of recurrent unilateral tonsillitis.
