Constrained Recursive Input Estimation of Blending and Mixing Systems

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2019
Blending, mixing processes are often supported by advanced process control systems to maximise margins from available component and heat streams. Since these model-based solutions require accurate and reliable data, in weakly instrumented processes, the ...

Puzzles in modern biology. II. Language, cancer and the recursive processes of evolutionary innovation [version 1; referees: 2 approved]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2016
Human language emerged abruptly. Diverse body forms evolved suddenly. Seed-bearing plants spread rapidly. How do complex evolutionary innovations arise so quickly? Resolving alternative claims remains difficult.

Extended Recursive Three-Step Filter for Linear Discrete-Time Systems with Dual-Unknown Inputs

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
This paper proposes two new extended recursive three-step filters for linear discrete systems with dual-unknown inputs, which can simultaneously estimate unknown input and state.

Synthesising a minimal cell with artificial metabolic pathways

open access: yesCommunications Chemistry, 2023
Reconstructing metabolic pathways in non-living systems allows for better understanding of living systems, however, mimicking living systems with non-living forms of matter remains challenging.

Trajectories of Physical Function in Canadian Children With Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We describe trajectories of physical function in children newly diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and identify trajectories with persisting functional impairments and associated baseline characteristics. Methods We included patients enrolled in the Canadian Alliance of Pediatric Rheumatology Investigators (CAPRI) Registry ...

Weaving Intelligence: Thermally Drawn Multimaterial Fibers Toward AI‐Enabled Smart Textiles

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Thermally drawn multimaterial fibers are rapidly advancing as intelligent structural units for next‐generation smart textiles. Integrating multimaterial architectures with neuromorphic and spiking‐neural‐network principles enables fabrics that can sense, compute, and adapt autonomously.

Data‐Driven Bulldozer Blade Control for Autonomous Terrain Leveling

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A simulation‐driven framework for autonomous bulldozer leveling is presented, combining high‐fidelity terramechanics simulation with a neural‐network‐based reduced‐order model. Gradient‐based optimization enables efficient, low‐level blade control that balances leveling quality and operation time.

Exploring recursive properties and dynamical complexity in scalar time-series using threshold-free recursive analysis approach

open access: yesAIP Advances
In this project, a threshold-free recursive analysis approach was investigated to reveal the recursive properties of dynamic systems. Specifically, the occurrence of recurrent patterns in phase trajectory was identified by a threshold-free recursive ...

DRIVE‐SAFE: Data‐Driven Robustness and Informed Validation for Evolving Specifications via Formal Evaluation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
DRIVE‐SAFE evaluates learning‐based, black‐box autonomous driving policies against evolving temporal safety requirements using Signal Temporal Logic robustness metrics. It aggregates distributional robustness measures with domain‐informed weights to guide iterative retraining.

Systematic Exploration of 3D Concrete Printing Parameters for Conformal Printing on Sloped Surfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A conformal slicing algorithm is developed for robotic 3D concrete printing (3DCP) on sloped surfaces as a first step toward printing slab‐on‐grade foundations on uneven terrain. Systematic experiments quantify the effects of nozzle speed, extrusion rate, and toolpath direction on filament dimension and stability.
