Seabird‐vessel interactions in industrial fisheries of Northwest Africa: Implications for international bycatch management

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 10, Page 2814-2831, October 2025.
This study provides guidance for seabird conservation by identifying high‐risk bycatch species and priority fishing fleets where mitigation should be targeted. It also demonstrates the potential of environmental variables to predict seabird–fishing interactions and underscores the political responsibilities essential for effective management in ...

Culturable bacteria associated with Anastrepha fraterculus sp. 1: in search of nitrogen‐fixing symbionts with biotechnological potential

open access: yesInsect Science, Volume 32, Issue 5, Page 1621-1640, October 2025.
Anastrepha fraterculus, a major fruit fly pest in South America, benefits from gut bacteria for nutrient assimilation and nitrogen fixation. This study examined culturable gut bacteria in A. fraterculus males from wild, lab‐reared, and lab‐colony groups, focusing on diazotrophs.

Water‐saving strategies in rice farming entail cascading effects in prey–predator interactions across ecosystem boundaries

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 9, Page 2273-2282, September 2025.
These results show that introducing multiple drainage periods in rice fields (i.e. AWD) indirectly hampers terrestrial spider reproduction through limiting the emergence of potential preys from the aquatic to terrestrial boundaries. MSD resulted in a more conciliatory strategy as it largely reduces methane emissions and does not affect predator–prey ...

Linkage disequilibrium patterns, population structure and diversity analysis in a worldwide durum wheat collection including Argentinian genotypes

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2021
Background Durum wheat (Triticum turgidum L. ssp. durum Desf. Husn) is the main staple crop used to make pasta products worldwide. Under the current climate change scenarios, genetic variability within a crop plays a crucial role in the successful ...

Systematic and taxonomic revision of the genus Austrocactus (Cactaceae) based on morphology and genome wide SNP‐data

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 74, Issue 2, Page 386-416, April 2025.
Abstract The post‐Miocene climatic history of arid environments in South America has been identified as a key driver of dispersal and diversification, particularly among plant groups such as Cactaceae. Despite their iconic status, many cactus genera remain poorly understood, and comprehensive taxonomic and systematic revisions using morphological and ...

Ontogenetic development and allometric growth patterns of the Peruvian rock seabass Paralabrax humeralis (Valenciennes, 1828) under culture conditions in Northern Chile

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Larval development in marine fish is a critical phase for aquaculture, as morphological and physiological changes during early ontogeny largely determine survival and subsequent performance.
