Open Source 3-D Filament Diameter Sensor for Recycling, Winding and Additive Manufacturing Machines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
To overcome the challenge of upcycling plastic waste into 3-D printing filament in the distributed recycling and additive manufacturing systems, this study designs, builds, tests and validates an open source 3-D filament diameter sensor for recycling and winding machines. The modular system for multi-axis optical control of the diameter of the recycled

Quantum Noise in Differential-type Gravitational-wave Interferometer and Signal Recycling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
There exists the standard quantum limit (SQL), derived from Heisenberg's uncertainty relation, in the sensitivity of laser interferometer gravitational-wave detectors.

Positive feedback loop between MAPK and aquaporin 7 regulates autophagy and apoptosis induced by palmitate in RIN‐m5f cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
T2DM is characterized by peripheral blood insulin resistance and progressive pancreatic β‐cell dysfunction. Here, we showed that AQP7, the only aquaglyceroporin protein, regulates autophagy and apoptosis in pancreatic β‐cells. We propose the existence of a positive feedback loop between MAPK signaling and AQP7 that regulates autophagy and apoptosis in ...

Solid Oxide Fuel Cell with Anodes using Proton Conductor (Barium-Cerium/Yttrium Oxide)

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Science and Technology, 2009
A new anode with a proton conductor (Barium-Cerium/Yttrium oxide (BCY): BaCe0.8Y0.2O3-δ) was proposed for a high-power, solid-oxide fuel cell. In the new anode, the proton-conducting material was included in a conventional anode made of nickel (Ni)

Dysfunctional tetraspanin 7 (TSP‐7) in Caenorhabditis elegans promotes; increases in average life‐ & health‐span, stress‐induced survival and motility

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The C. elegans tetraspanin‐7 (tsp‐7) is a homologue of human CD63, which is a negative regulator of autophagy. The C. elegans strain, tm5761, has a dysfunctional (knockout) tsp‐7 gene. When compared to the wild‐type strain, the tm5761 strain shows increased: life‐ and health‐span; thermotolerance, and stress‐induced locomotion.

The Largest Environmental Movement: Recycling and Consumption Work in Sweden [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
By sorting their waste for recycling, Swedes are told that they are part of 'Sweden's largest environmental movement' (Avfall Sverige, 2008). Recycling in Sweden is understood as an environmental action by all parties within society (including consumers,

Transfer Functions for Fields in a 3-mirror Nested Cavity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Transfer functions for the fields in a 3-mirror nested cavity are obtained. Explicit formulas for their poles and zeros are found.

A non‐fluorescent immunohistochemistry method for measuring autophagy flux using MAP1LC3/LC3 and SQSTM1 as core markers

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We introduce an immunohistochemistry method to measure autophagy flux, highlighting the active degradation and recycling of cellular waste. This cost‐effective approach uses tissue samples to track key markers like LC3 and SQSTM1, revealing how cells maintain health or respond to diseases such as cancer. It bridges the gap between research and clinical
