Molecular determinants of signal transduction in tropomyosin receptor kinases

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Tropomyosin receptor kinases control critical neuronal functions, but how do the same receptors produce diverse cellular responses? This review explores the structural mechanisms behind Trk signaling diversity, focusing on allosteric modulation and ligand bias.

Single‐Cell RNA Seq in Sydenham Chorea Shows B Cell HLA‐DR/DQ Upregulation and Plasma Cell Proteasomal Activation

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The pathogenesis of Sydenham chorea remains unclear. We report a 10‐year‐old girl presenting with subacute chorea and mild carditis following Streptococcal throat infection. Single‐cell RNA sequencing on 30,794 peripheral immune cells from the patient and two sex‐matched controls revealed nine immune cell clusters.

Recycling in a Megacity [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Air & Waste Management Association, 2004
In the aftermath of the 9/11 disaster, Mayor Bloomberg of New York City unveiled an aggressive budget plan that included the temporary suspension of glass and plastics recycling. This was considered by many to be anti-environmental, but the results of this study show that for lack of markets, even at zero or negative prices, nearly 90% of the plastic ...

SNUPN‐Related Muscular Dystrophy: Novel Phenotypic, Pathological and Functional Protein Insights

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective SNUPN‐related muscular dystrophy or LGMDR29 is a new entity that covers from a congenital or childhood onset pure muscular dystrophy to more complex phenotypes combining neurodevelopmental features, cataracts, or spinocerebellar ataxia. So far, 12 different variants have been described.

The dirty man of Europe? Rubbish, recycling and consumption work in England [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
England has been described as 'the dirty man of Europe'. However, the country's household recycling rate has been steadily increasing in the last decade, achieving a recycling rate of 42 per cent in 2011/12 compared to just 12 per cent in 2001/2 (DEFRA ...

Decreased Serum 5‐HT: Clinical Correlates and Regulatory Role in NMJ of MG

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Although 5‐Hydroxytryptamine (5‐HT) indirectly stimulates muscle contraction and participates in regulating Acetylcholine receptor (AChR) cluster homeostasis in cellular, animal, and clinical studies, evidence regarding its potential to modulate muscle contraction in myasthenia gravis (MG) remains limited.

Is green a grey area? Sustainability and inclusivity; the ageing population and recycling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
There are growing pressures (political, legislative and environmental) to increase material recovery through recycling. There are two basic recycling schemes in the UK; kerbside and bring-site schemes.
