In the aftermath of the 9/11 disaster, Mayor Bloomberg of New York City unveiled an aggressive budget plan that included the temporary suspension of glass and plastics recycling. This was considered by many to be anti-environmental, but the results of this study show that for lack of markets, even at zero or negative prices, nearly 90% of the plastic ...

In human monocytic cells THP‐1, a limited uptake of native—not oxidized—LDL/VLDL induced expression of scavenger receptor A and cellular adhesion. Induction was inhibited by lysosomotropic (WR‐1065) and lipophilic (BHT) antioxidants and by siRNAs against ferritinophagy.

Extraction of Lead from Hydrometallurgical Processing of Copper Shaft Flue Dust
Pyrometallurgical copper production is carried out in thermal aggregates. Input waste materials with a copper content between 5% and 99% Cu are treated in the individual aggregates.

Dual recycling for GEO600 [PDF]
Dual recycling is the combination of signal recycling and power recycling; both optical techniques improve the shot-noise-limited sensitivity of interferometric gravitational-wave detectors. In addition, signal recycling can reduce the loss of light power due to imperfect interference and allows, in principle, to beat the standard quantum limit.

ADAPT NXT: Fixed Cycles or Every‐Other‐Week IV Efgartigimod in Generalized Myasthenia Gravis
ABSTRACT Objective This phase 3b, open‐label, randomized ADAPT NXT study investigated the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of efgartigimod administered in either a fixed cycles dosing regimen (3 cycles of 4 once‐weekly infusions, with 4 weeks between cycles) or a cycle followed by every‐other‐week (Q2W) dosing.

Recycling BiCGSTAB with an Application to Parametric Model Order Reduction [PDF]
Krylov subspace recycling is a process for accelerating the convergence of sequences of linear systems. Based on this technique, the recycling BiCG algorithm has been developed recently. Here, we now generalize and extend this recycling theory to BiCGSTAB.

CNS Mitochondria‐Derived Vesicle in Blood: Potential Biomarkers for Brain Mitochondria Dysfunction
ABSTRACT Objective Mitochondrial dysfunction is a hallmark of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's (AD) and Parkinson's (PD). Our goal was to develop practical, noninvasive methods to assess mitochondrial status through the detection of mitochondria‐derived vesicles (MDVs).

Antiproton Stacking in the Recycler [PDF]
Possibilities to accumulate antiprotons in the Recycler are considered for three different cases: with current stochastic cooling, with upgraded stochastic cooling and with electron cooling. With stochastic cooling only, even upgraded, Recycler looks hardly useful.
