Rotational behavior of red blood cells in suspension---a mesoscale simulation study

open access: yes, 2010
The nature of blood as a suspension of red blood cells makes computational hemodynamics a demanding task. Our coarse-grained blood model, which builds on a lattice Boltzmann method for soft particle suspensions, enables the study of the collective ...

Hematological profile of East African Short-Horn Zebu calves: From birth to 51 weeks of age [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper is the first attempt to accurately describe the hematological parameters for any African breed of cattle, by capturing the changes in these parameters over the first 12 months of an animal’s life using a population based sample of calves ...

Glucose phosphate isomerase deficiency demasked by whole-genome sequencing: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports
Background Glucose-6-phosphate isomerase deficiency is a rare genetic disorder causing hereditary nonspherocytic hemolytic anemia. It is the second most common glycolytic enzymopathy in red blood cells.

Integrated genomic and proteomic profiling reveals insights into chemoradiation resistance in cervical cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A comprehensive genomic and proteomic analysis of cervical cancer revealed STK11 and STX3 as a potential biomarkers of chemoradiation resistance. Our study demonstrated EGFR as a therapeutic target, paving the way for precision strategies to overcome treatment failure and the DNA repair pathway as a critical mechanism of resistance.

Validation of the Medonic CA620/530 Vet 20-ml microcapillary sampler system for hematology testing of feline blood [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The aim of the current study was to compare feline hematologic variables in blood collected in microcapillary tubes (20 ml) and conventional blood tubes with the Medonic CA620/530 Vet in-house hematologic analyzer.

Bridging the computational gap between mesoscopic and continuum modeling of red blood cells for fully resolved blood flow

open access: yes, 2019
We present a computational framework for the simulation of blood flow with fully resolved red blood cells (RBCs) using a modular approach that consists of a lattice Boltzmann solver for the blood plasma, a novel finite element based solver for the ...

Label-free microfluidic enrichment of ring-stage Plasmodium falciparum-infected red blood cells using non-inertial hydrodynamic lift [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background Understanding of malaria pathogenesis caused by Plasmodium falciparum has been greatly deepened since the introduction of in vitro culture system, but the lack of a method to enrich ring-stage parasites remains a technical ...

Liver X receptor agonist upregulates LPCAT3 in human aortic endothelial cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology
ObjectiveEndothelial cells (ECs) play an important role in tissue homeostasis. Recently, EC lipid metabolism has emerged as a regulator of EC function. The liver X receptors (LXRs) are involved in the transcriptional regulation of genes involved in lipid
