Red cell aggregation in blood flow
Klinische Wochenschrift, 1976The apparent viscosity of blood strongly increases at low shear in rotational viscometers, this phenomenon is based on the reversible formation of red cell aggregates. The magnitude of this increase strongly depends on the hematocrit value, on plasma viscosity and lastly on the microrheological properties of the aggregates.

Red blood cell aggregation and sedimentation: the role of the cell shape
British Journal of Haematology, 1989SummaryThe influence of erythrocyte shape changes on the sedimentation rate was studied in vitro and in vivo. In vitro the highest sedimentation rate was observed with a slight degree of stomatocytosis (morphological index – 0.3; i.e. one red cell out of three being a stomatocyte I).

Ultrasound simulation of blood with different red blood cell aggregations and concentrations
Bio-Medical Materials and Engineering, 2022BACKGROUND: Considerable progress of ultrasound simulation on blood has enhanced the characterizing of red blood cell (RBC) aggregation. OBJECTIVE: A novel simulation method aims at modeling the blood with different RBC aggregations and concentrations is proposed.

Continuum modeling of deformation and aggregation of red blood cells
Journal of Biomechanics, 2016In order to gain better understanding for rheology of an isolated red blood cell (RBC) and a group of multiple RBCs, new continuum models for describing mechanical properties of cellular structures of an RBC and inter-cellular interactions among multiple RBCs are developed.

Plasma and blood viscosities, and aggregation of red cells in racehorses
Clinical Physics and Physiological Measurement, 1982Nineteen racehorses have been studied for haemorheologic factors as earlier studies showed a definite correlation between physical fitness and these factors in humans. Results included individual values for all viscosity factors, and the arithmetic means, the latter showing 4.70 +/- 0.49 cP for blood viscosity measured at a shear rate of 180 s-1; 1.100

Signaling pathways regulating red blood cell aggregation
Biorheology, 2014The exposure of red blood cells (RBC) to some hormones (epinephrine, insulin and glucagon) and agonists of α- and β-adrenergic receptors (phenylephrine, clonidine and isoproterenol) may modify RBC aggregation (RBCA). Prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) significantly decreased RBCA, and PGE2 had a similar but lesser effect.

Aggregation of red blood cells studied by ultrasound backscattering
Biorheology, 1987The erythrocyte aggregation phenomenon is an important factor in capillary circulation. This phenomenon can be evaluated by a number of methods (microscopic observations, viscometry, light measurements) which cannot be applied simply to in vivo measurements.

Evaluation of a method to assess red blood cell aggregation
Biorheology, 1989Reversible aggregation of red blood cells (RBC) plays an important role in determining the flow properties of blood. To study different factors affecting RBC aggregation we used a new commercially available erythro-aggregameter (SEFAM, Nancy, France). The method allows the photometric quantitation of the kinetics of RBC aggregation and the estimation ...

The mechanism of the dextran-induced red blood cell aggregation
European Biophysics Journal, 2006In order to clarify the mechanism of dextran-induced aggregation, the effect of the ionic strength (I) on the minimal shear stress (tau(c)) required to rupture RBC doublets was studied for suspensions with the external media containing 76 and 298 kDa dextrans.

A 3D Ultrasound Model of Red Blood Cell Aggregation
2019 9th IEEE International Conference on Control System, Computing and Engineering (ICCSCE), 2019An ultrasonic simulation method of erythrocyte aggregation with different levels in the blood is presented in this paper. Gamma distribution and Gaussian distribution are used simultaneity. A set of 3D ultrasound phantoms based on Gamma distribution gamma distributions is built to be implemented from the random to clustered scatterer distributions by ...
