Influence of additional far-red light on the photosynthetic and growth parameters of lettuce plants and the resistance of the photosynthetic apparatus to high irradiance

open access: yesPhotosynthetica
The effects of additional far-red light (FRL) on the photosynthetic and growth parameters of Lactuca sativa plants grown for 30 d and on the photosynthetic activity of the plants under high irradiance [4 h; 1,500 μmol(photon) m-2 s-1] were studied.

Blue Photons from Broad-Spectrum LEDs Control Growth, Morphology, and Coloration of Indoor Hydroponic Red-Leaf Lettuce

open access: yesPlants, 2023
For indoor crop production, blue + red light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have high photosynthetic efficacy but create pink or purple hues unsuitable for workers to inspect crops.

Mechanistic basis for inhibition of the extended‐spectrum β‐lactamase GES‐1 by enmetazobactam and tazobactam

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is of huge importance, resulting in over 1 million deaths each year. Here, we describe how a new drug, enmetazobactam, designed to help fight resistant bacterial diseases, inhibits a key enzyme (GES‐1) responsible for AMR. Our data show it is a more potent inhibitor than the related tazobactam, with high‐level computation

Upregulation of GLRs expression by light in Arabidopsis leaves

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2022
Background Glutamate receptor-like (GLR) channels are plant homologs of iGluRs, animal ionotropic glutamate receptors which participate in neurotransmission. GLRs mediate plant adaptive processes and photomorphogenesis.

Reproductive Performance of Zi-Goose Promoted by Red Color Illumination

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2022
The color of light affects the reproductive performance of poultry, but it is not clear what efficient illumination strategy could be adopted to improve the reproductive performance of Zi-goose.

From lactation to malignancy: A comparison between healthy and cancerous breast gland at single‐cell resolution reveals new issues for tumorigenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Single‐cell RNA sequencing reveals an opposite role of SLPI in basal tumors based on metastatic spread, along with shared activation of specific regulons in cancer cells and mature luminal lactocytes, as well as downregulation of MALAT1 and NEAT1 in the latter.

Imeglimin attenuates liver fibrosis by inhibiting vesicular ATP release from hepatic stellate cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Imeglimin, at clinically relevant concentrations, inhibits vesicular ATP accumulation and release from hepatic stellate cells, thereby attenuating purinergic signaling and reducing fibrogenic activation. This mechanism reveals a newly identified antifibrotic action of imeglimin beyond glycemic control.

Authenticating Turkey Red Textiles through Material Investigations by FTIR and UHPLC [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Nineteenth-century Turkey red, a cotton textile dyed by a peculiar and unique process, is found in many collections around the world. It was known for its bright colour and remarkable fastness to light exposure and washing.
