Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Reduced-Complexity I/Q Turbo Detector for Convolutional-Coding Assisted Space-Time Trellis Coding

open access: yes, 2002
This paper presents a reduced-complexity turbo detector for convolutional-coding aided space-time trellis coded (STTC) schemes. The proposed technique is based on the separate in-phase/quadrature-phase (I/Q) detection principle developed for single ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Sensitivity analysis to reduce sampling effort of a long-term monitoring program

open access: yesEcological Indicators
Long-term ecological monitoring programs are valuable but expensive. Over time, programs may need to reduce sampling due to funding limits or shifting research priorities. To maintain data streams, monitoring programs must be proactive about choosing how

CAN THE TUBERCULOSIS TRANSMISSION RATE BE REDUCED? [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Medical Association, 1920
What are the possible avenues of tuberculosis transmission among individuals? Is it direct contact by the air route, though spray that is expelled by an act of coughing, or through dried sputum in public places? In answer to this question it may be said, that if the results of investigations of the influenza-pneumonia epidemic can be taken as a key to ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.
