Reduced sediment accumulation rate enhances early marine diagenesis of periplatform sediments

open access: yesThe Depositional Record
Early marine diagenesis can alter the δ13C values of carbonate sediments in the marine environment, hindering interpretations of changes in global carbon cycling through geological time.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Exchange Rate Management and Inflation Targeting: Modeling the Exchange Rate in Reduced-Form New Keynesian Models [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper introduces a strategy for modeling the exchange rate when the monetary authority targets inflation while also managing the exchange rate using interventions.

Low-mutation-rate, reduced-genome Escherichia coli: an improved host for faithful maintenance of engineered genetic constructs

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories, 2012
Background Molecular mechanisms generating genetic variation provide the basis for evolution and long-term survival of a population in a changing environment. In stable, laboratory conditions, the variation-generating mechanisms are dispensable, as there

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Reduced Complexity I/Q Turbo Detection for Space-Time Trellis-Coded Systems

open access: yes, 2004
A reduced-complexity turbo-detection scheme, referred to here as the R-TD arrangement, is proposed for employment in space-time trellis-coded (STTC) systems using the inphase/quadrature-phase (I/Q) cancellation technique that was previously developed for

Economic analysis of integrated weed management in field bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)

open access: yesPlant, Soil and Environment, 2003
Field experiments were conducted in field bean in the north-eastern part of theRepublicofCroatiato compare weed control and crop response under different management practices within the critical period of field bean production. The practices consisted in

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Exchange rate volatility and trade: a general equilibrium analysis. [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper, we use insights from the literature on financial options to analyze the effect of exchange rate volatility on the volume of trade between countries.

Reducing Frame Rate for Object Tracking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Object tracking is commonly used in video surveillance, but typically video with full frame rate is sent. We previously have shown that full frame rate is not needed, but it is unclear what the appropriate frame rate to send or whether we can further reduce the frame rate.
